My apartment has one large room that I use as the living room and my bedroom...I don't have a couch yet to separate the space a bit, how about some ideas on what to use to give my bedroom more private? I thought about a screen, but they are so expensive. Thanks!

Let me look around some on the internet. I have seen many screens done on shows like Trading Spaces for example. They really can be affordable if you are crafty.. This is going to be fun helping you decorate. I'm going to start looking around.
Oh - when will you get your couch? When you do that will be a great way to section off the rooms along with the screen. Do you have any pictures?

What about hanging a screen you make? You can make a large screen with 4 pieces of wood (Home Depot will cut for you so will Lowes) Take really pretty fabric, staple it to the frame, use eye loops, and large hooks to hang. Or maybe, a really pretty & sensual Curtain?you could nail the holders into the ceiling and use drapery rods. Hope this helps
Not yet, when I locate my camera I'll take some pictures to give you an idea...I am hoping to get a couch with my income tax refund (if I get one) so probably in April or May.. thanks! This will be fun!

What about, using book cases? Maybe some tall ones? you can even make some "fake books' so it looks like a library. Use paint stirrers, glue them to a cardboard or plastic magazine holder. Paint them with a book spine before you glue them.
I have tried to paste some ideas I just found but it's not working for me.
I went to www.hgtv.com and in the search box on the left side I entered dividing a room and it came up with some cute ideas using the screen, paint and plants. I'll see if I can find something else. Ellise's ideas are great about going to Home Depot. I forgot they will cut the wood for you.

You can hang or stand old windows and out curtains on them for privacy.......

I have seen screens mad out of bifold closet doors. Just hinge the doors together and paint or cover in fabric. I think a hanging screen would look nice.

How about creating a bed net? Like the princess beds or mosquito nets that hang from a circular hoop? That would at least separate your bed from looking to much like "THE BED". lol
Similar to this? You could make it yourself with possibly tulle. http://www.longroad.com/
Could consider a daybed also so it doesn't look so "bedroom-y"
Here's a cute example. It's a bit young, but you get the idea:

How about those hanging bead curtains they used to use in the 70's. They come in lots of different color schemes and different shapes. I've seen them at Big Lots, Hot Topic, the mall and the internet. Or the curtain idea above is pretty neat, how about using hooks in the ceiling and attaching really pretty shower curtain loops or rings to a piece of pretty gauzy or silky material. Then hang the curtain with the rings/loops and hooks in the ceiling. Or how about getting some pretty lattice work type fencing from a hardware store to make a screen out of. You could paint it to match your rooms, even painting it different on each side to match the room that side shows in.

This is the best you can take a wood rod and you can get them at most any craft store and two hooks from home depot and some flat bed sheets in any color from wallmart just pick a color that will match your decor. take your rod and put it threw the top part of the flat sheets (no sewing req.) attaach your hooks to the wall and hang then get some pretty tie backs and pull back just like a window curtin It is beautyful I promise it looks like something from a modle home .
PRICE around ~ $25.00-$30.00
Flat bed sheets can also make very pretty curtins for any window
Just do the same thing but with a curtin rod
