How Often Do You Grocery Shop?

I've read that some people find it cheaper to make just one trip per month and stock up. Then they stay out of the stores and they don't spend any money!

I don't dispute that the first step to saving money is to ~not start the car~

. But I find that if I make MORE trips to the grocery store, I save more. I guess it helps me think "put it down, I might find it cheaper". So now I'm making 2 to 3 runs a week to 2 to 3 different stores. I'm in an urban area, and the stores are nearby, so spending more for gas isn't a concern. But it is more time consuming.

Just wondered what everyone else finds to be their best method to save the most money. I could use some tips for efficiency

I usually go to the grocery store twice a week. Our sales start on Wed., so I go on Thursday and Monday. Somehow it is just easier for me.

I usually go once a week to Kroger for sales, and once to Walmart for price matching or another store with unusually good sales. But if the sales aren't great, I may skip it.

If I only went once a month, I would have to throw the ads away without even peeking, because it's the loss leaders that lure me out. I too think I save more by taking maximum advantage of them.

We go once or twice a week, to stock up on items as they go on sale, and to check the discount racks at Kroger. I've gotten some awesome stuff super cheap from there!

I have cut WAY back in the past few months. I go 1x to Walmart and 1x to Publix every 2 weeks. That's it. I make a detailed list of what I'm going to need and if I miss something, too bad. It gets put on the list for the next time. I have really saved some money doing this.

I shop once a week and will only go back if we run out of fruit for the week (this rarely happens, but it has). I make a list and check it twice, because I will not go back to the store for a week and whatever we have on hand will have to last us

. This saves us quite a bit of money in the long run.

I go once a week, sometimes to more than one store if there are good deals (all are close). I only buy loss leaders that we use, and items that I immediately need. I go Saturday morning, even though it's the busiest, but it means I can leave the kids home.

I will occasionally go again if I really need something, but normally I just make do without because it's a pain to get out during the week.

I go once every two weeks. I typically go to 3-4 stores on my shopping day to pick up the best deals at each one.

I go once a week to the commissary to get the bulk of my stuff. Then I go once a week to a British store to get produce, milk, eggs and sometimes meat.

I tried once a month shopping but found myself always going back to the store to get something I forgot.

I do my major shopping twice a month...I might need to run into a store to pick up some milk or bread in between but mainly twice a month for me.

I do a big shop once a month on payday, then maybe every couple of weeks I have a top up on milk/fresh fruit veg. I do find that I spend alot less because im not tempted!, however we dont get the deals that you get in the US, we have special offers in store that generally run for a month

I go Monday morning and either Friday evening or Saturday morning. I have been doing this for 7 years and it works really well for us. And of course, always with a grocery list!

I usually shop once a week ...I get the ads on all the sales and then go and see what I can find on sale as well as anything we need. I would like to just shop every 2 weeks hummmmmmmmmm maybe I'll try that as I might be able to save more if I stay out of there!!! Katy

I shop at Aldi's once every 3 months. A huge stock-up. Then only the loss leaders for meat in bulk every few weeks or so depending on what we need for the freezer. (Then whatever else I need for the pantry as well) Milk we buy at the dairy store every 2 weeks. Fruits & veggies every week.

I have a HUGE pantry. 2 actually.
