Default What did you sell to build your EF??

I finally got ahold of Dave Ramsey's book at the library. I'm maybe 2/3's the way through it. I can see his program fitting my life style. I am curious what you folks sold to raise your EF or reduce debt?

I have a small gun collection that I'm seriously thinking of selling (I'll keep a few that actually get used for hunting). I am also thinking of giving up our home internet service (I have access to the web at work anyways).

    Any one else?

my cell phone service was $85 a month for an outrageously large amount of minutes. i never went over but i also was constantly having to shell out the $85. right now, my electric bill has been at a steady $25 - $29 a month. those $85 for one month of phone service could pay my electric bill for three months. i switched to a prepaid cell phone. i mean.. i only really talk to dh and its usually, "can you pick up a gallon of milk on the way home.." type conversation.

also... our bedroom tv. we dont have any children and we have a nice tv in the living room. our bedroom tv was collecting dust and still in really good shape.dh and i talked and selling it made sense. not having a tv in the bedroom helps keep the whole "bedroom sanctuary" feel.

thats about it for us when it comes to jumpstarting the ef. i thought about taking a part time but it would have cut into too much with my cooking and cleaning routine and if the house inst clean, i start to feel anxious and its not fun for me or dh. LOL. - i also coupon. alot. i dont ever pay for things like toothpaste, shampoo, otc medicines, cleaning products almost ever anymore and if i do, its pennies on the dollar. couponing is something that i enjoy so i get the entertainment factor out of it AND the free (next to free) item. i dont jump on every deal because not every deal is a good one, or something that i will actually use.

We are pretty much at the bare minimum for services and stuff around here, so we have recently begun selling things that we had around that were never used. My father has a thing about buying people tv show seasons. So, we're currently eBaying seasons of LOST, Seinfeld, Prison Break, and others. We also have some coin sets and hockey cards that we'll be selling soon.

Since you are just talking about building an EF, this is what we'll sell. If something were to happen to one of our jobs, however, then we would definitely have to start parting with larger, higher impact things. It's only stuff.

    oh boy - what didn't I sell?

first, I had a big yard sale. All those little knick knack items really add up!

items such as an extra iron, extra dishes, VHS movies, music cds, boys clothing, framed pictures that weren't hanging anywhere (gotta wonder how you end up with those?) -

a few of the larger toys (that I bought 2nd hand in the first place) were sold as well, such as the boys air hockey table and basketball arcade style game (they never played with these things at this point)

Yard sales should be a serious consideration for anyone looking to make a bit of extra - I don't know what other avenue one could use to sell little stuff -

We didn't sell anything, because of our current living situation. DH's job requires that we travel nonstop. Right now, we're in Mexico, and will be until mid-March. After that, we go to Europe for the rest of 2008. What we did was cut unnecessary spending to the bone, and we rented our home in the states, and put all our personal stuff in our outbuilding for storage. Because DH's company pays for all our housing, and most of our food, we have almost no living expenses right now, which is allowing us to throw *everything* at our debt.

Dave Ramsay suggests selling something to jumpstart an EF?! Hmm...well, we just waited till the mortgage was paid out and rediverted the monthly mortgage amount to an EF. Sad to say, Dave Ramsay came along too late for us. We went through the first 20 years of married life without an EF. Thankfully, we made it.

I am selling things that my children have outgrown. I also add my rebate monies to the EF. Hoping to snowball some "found" money as well.

I downsized drastically 4 years ago, so I didn't have anything I was able to sell. I receive an annual bonus which was over $1000 so I used that.

I have some coins, a car and some baseball cards I am thinking about talking to my dh about selling. I dont know if he will go for it but I want to start an ef with the money. I also have to have 3,000 saved by this fall for dh's tuition so I think selling the car is a must. It's a 65 mustang that he gave me as a wedding gift so I doubt he will let me sell it.

This was just this month, so it is timely!

Books, books, books (total book geek here), mostly on Amazon.
    Recent computer games.
Homeschool materials I overbought ahead of time.

Now I need to get on Craigslist and sell some things to put toward the snowball. I used to do OK on eBay, but with the current fees, it just isn't worth it for what I have to list.
