Default Anyone go to freight salvage/reclamation centers?

So, have you? What are they like? There is one here in San Antonio that I have been wanting to visit but it's a little bit of a drive for me. What can you generally find there and is it worth the visit?

I guess I don't know very much about them. How do you find them? Is there any kind of charge for what you want? I would think it might be worth it if you had a 'partner' to share in cost of gas for the trip. You might want to take a bigger vehicle. Hmmmmmmmm might be worth it.

We had a couple of salvage stores when we lived in Tulsa. You could get some good deals, but the store was really gross and a lot of the packages were taped shut, so it was sort of hit or miss. There are some good deals to be had, but I wouldn't buy anything that had been previously opened, which there was a lot of. I think mac & cheese was .10/box, most cereal was .99/box.

I'm going this weekend to one I found via google. I hope it is still open and operating....and has some good deals

Julie, I found out about them through an ad in the paper. I've known about this place for 3 or 4 years now. It's right off of downtown San Antonio. I keep meaning to go and then something comes up, I forget for a while then remember, forget, remember..... I found the place again through google. Try "freight salvage ________________" with your city name and see what you come up with. Also try the yellow pages. My dad worked for a freight company for years and stuff was always getting damaged. I just didn't ever ask where the stuff went.

Maybe I'll run down there tomorrow afternoon and report back on what I find. Maybe I'll find some awesome deals!

I would be interested in hearing about it. I would love going to a place like that! There used to be a place like that here but it was more furniture. I thought it got more expensive though and I quit going.
