what kind of moisturizer do you use?
ok, i have very crazy skin. i am oily and flaky at the same time. i need a moisturizer that isn't greasy and doesn't clog pores cuz my chin is very prone to breakouts. not just little breakouts, we're talking about knots.
i received a sample of 'hope in a jar' by philosophy, and while i like the consistancy and it felt good on my skin, i noticed some whelps. coincidence? with me, who knows. im always breaking into whelps for some reason or another. but the smell is what really bothered me, wow! i dont know what that smell is, but its harsh.
so my question, what are some good moisturizers that you've tried that aren't too gooky and greasy, but still leaves you moisturized?
(ps. i use to sell mary kay, and used it for years. now i cant use it at all. my face becomes one big breakout)

I have the same type of skin! Ugh! I get a lot of samples and the one I LOVED was from Biore. But, I have a bottle of Aveeno I'm trying to use up so I haven't purchased it yet. The sample lasted 3 days, and I liked it just as well on the third day. Oh, and the smell was wonderful!

I tend to use whatever on sale... right now some lancome ( I think its lancome) that was clearanced out at costcos for 5 dollars for 2 bottles...
before that it was vaseline intensive care body lotion used on body and face.
I'm a believer that lotion is lotion and only serves to hold water onto damp skin... so I apply it after bathing or washing my face.
I never had any skin problems at all except for sometimes dryness in the winter. At that time I use more lotion and warm instead of hot water...
I've also used no ad brand suntan lotion left over from summer, worked just fine with a nice tropical smell
My skin looks as nice as any 48 year olds, maybe better.

I have very sensitive skin with redness, dry on cheeks, a bit oily in the t-zone and prone to hormonal breakouts. My favorite moisturizer is Dove Sensitive Skin Moisturizer, but I can't seem to find it locally anymore which I am super sad about. I need to find some!
Lately I have been using a bit of Cetaphil moisturizer which is a bit heavier then I like but its one of the few that doesn't irritate my skin. I especially can't use anything with alpha hydroxy and a few other chemicals, and most moisturizers that have added fragrance cause further issues. I have to be really careful because I will get contact dermatitis and an allergic reaction so when I find one that works I tend to stick to it.

I doubt that I can help with recommending anything, but I can sure relate to sensitive skin and problems finding products that don't break you out or burn you. I've also noticed that my skin has changed greatly over the years. I've had products that I loved that all of a sudden stopped working or caused problems. I've also had to go to a progressively heavier moisturizer over the years. And I won't mention all the products that I loved that were discontinued. All I can suggest is keep looking. You might see if you could get some samples to help you see what works and what won't.
There have been a couple of times that I have gone to stores with trained sales people and paid a bit more for a consultation just to help me find product.
Right now I use Lubriderm, but I have discovered that I can also use generic/store brands so that saves me quite a bit.
Good luck. I know the trial and error can be painful.

I used to get a lot of break outs and just tried different things with trial and error. Most recently I started washing my face with ivory bar soap and using garnier fructis renew moisturizer. I no longer get the big pimples or break outs. I don't even wear foundation any more.

Pure unrefined Shea Butter.
Wonderful stuff!
I buy from here:
http://www.nasabb.com/
You can even ask for a free sample pack (black soap is great as well - great for acne too!)
http://www.nasabb.com/Free-Sample-Pack_p_44-221.html
I found out about this site from another forum board (more cruchy and natural living forum) and ordered a sample pack. It was so nice, I became a paying customer, good stuff. My BF loves it as well, helps really keep us moisterized in this dry Denver area.
Good luck!
PS I've been struggling with acne for over 20 years.... I dont' get any worse from using shea butter on my face, and my body loves it. It's defiantely not a processed lotion thou. It's unrefined, I use a spoon to get it out of my large container and then it needs to "melt" on your skin a bit to warm it up. I also sometimes whip it with coconut oil and make my own blend.Last edited by Denvergirlie; 03-05-2008 at 05:52 PM.

I've been using the cheapest olay I can find with sunscreen for many years. Under $5.00 for 4 oz but need to find something else. Starting to have problems with adult acne. I think it's unfair to have wrinkles and acne at the same time, but oh well.

I use good old virgin organic coconut oil on my face and entire body. Very soothing and healing.

I use nivea cream for body. It is a heavy cream, feels sticky at first but obsorbs well. I like it because it takes that winter itch out of my skin. Walmart has the largest tub for 6.00. Usually lasts me all winter.
My face I seldom use anything but probably should! I tend to break out in acne.
