How do you find yard sales?
If you do yard sales how do you find out about them?
I'm having one in a few weeks and want to make sure I cover my bases in advertising.

I scope the area for signs when I am out running regular errands and take note of dates and times. I rarely look at the paper

If I am waking up to go yard saleing ( sp? saling?) I will look at paper for ones that are big, or neighborhoods, block sales, or ones that have what I am looking for.
If I am out and about on those days I look for bright signs with address I can read when I drive by, or arrows pointing me in right direction.
If I am out and not doing a day of it I will look to see what is out front. If is alot of tables of knick knacks and I have to walk a long way to get to one table I wont stop.
Good luck!

I might check craigslist, but mainly I look for signs.
If I check craigslist, I look for area wide sales/ neighborhood/ church sale, etc.
other than that, it's the signs that make me stop

I just head in any direction on a nice day when its a saturday morning and find several. Thats because where I live its a big city and they aren't hard to find.
I need to have a few myself to empty out my shed.

In our location most people list yardsales in the newspaper on Thursday and Friday. My husband and I sit down on a Friday night and map out the best route for us to hit as many as we can without going in circles.

If you are still living here in Montgomery, the best way to advertise is in the Bulletin Board. You can submit the ad online or by phone 24/7 (by Tuesday at noon so it will be in that Thursday's edition) and it is free.
I have been yard selling here for 18 years and this is where the majority of yard sellers here do it.
A few will advertise in the paper, but that cost a fee. Craigslist is not very popular here either.
Since Montgomery does not have a rule against signs on light poles, many will do that as well.
Also, call WLWI the morning of and they will make an announcement. Well, I should say they were still doing it the last time I had one, about six months ago.

Thanks Neely. I found the Bulletin online today and put adds in for my baby gear, digital camera and VCR. I'll wait until next week's for the yard sale as it's not until the Sat. after Easter.

Here people put up lots of signs. Also we get the local paper twice a week ($34) for the yr and money well spent. I also look at the ads in there. I live in a town of about 9000 so I dont have to travel too far

I look in the classifieds of our local newspaper and I look in the area specialty papers. Around here we have the Buyers Guide, White Lake Beacon and the Hi-lites. I also look for signs, so if you live in an area where you can post signs, put up a lot of them...just remember to take them down when your yard sale is over.
