What do you cook for snacks?
I am having trouble coming up with snack ideas to cook from scratch to save money. I have cooked popcorn ,cookies and brownies. What else can I make?
My family loves chips and I hate constantly dropping money on a not so healthy semi-expensive snack.
TIA
Andrea

Homemade granola bars - I use cooks.com for some ideas on recipes. Also fruit salads, Rice Crispy treats, peanut butter balls (awesome!), fruit served with caramel dip, frozen juice treat pops. Hope these help.

The muffins go over really well here. I use the TWG recipe and then just whatever add ins I have on hand. The last batch were Cappuccino chip. (I added 2 tbs cocoa, 3 tbs instant coffee, and a handful of choc chips) - Gone in a flash! LOL
We also like saltines w/ cheese or PB,

We bake lots of cookies, fudge, caramel corn and mock toffee. Also, lots of popcorn and fruit too.

I keep a lot of fresh fruit on hand for snacks or carrot/celery sticks. I also love potato chips, but I buy them when they are B1G1F so that really cuts the cost down.
There are a lot of different recipes for bar type goodies...oatsies, 7 layer bars, tollhouse pan cookies and you can make donuts or cinnamon rolls."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

We make potato chips once in a while, popcorn is the usual snack. Once in a blue moon DH will make a batch of sausage balls.

We also like hummus and pita! String cheese with seedless grapes is another good snack.

I make homemade potato chips from regular and sweet potatoes. They can be done in the microwave or a dehydrator. I also dehydrate tomato slices which make an excellent snack to much on.
I make my own tortilla chips by cutting up flour or corn tortilla shells in triangles (pizza cut) and baking in the oven. I dust them with Cumin but you can use anything you want. They go great with homemade salsa.
Homemade salsa's are easy with BallŪ Salsa Mix and a few cans of diced tomatoes. There are other brands, like Mrs Wages, too. Saves from having to have all the ingredients on hand.
Homemade Hummus, as mentioned, is also simple and an excellent dip with veggies or crackers.
How about Baked Onion Rings.

Frugal Cook, would you share your baked onion ring recipe? They sound so good.
Popcorn, muffins and cookies. I am diabetic so sugar free jello and pudding is always available. For a treat I will make a sugar free ambrosia type of salad just to have in the fridge. It sounds like your family likes salty snacks Andrea, they too might like those baked onion rings.

No real cooking involved but a favorite at my house is fresh apple slices dipped in natural peanut butter (the kind that is just peanuts -- no added oils or sugars). That is so good. It is also a good way to introduce natural peanut butter because the sweetness of the apple helps people get used to the difference in taste and consistency gradually.
I keep a "veggie tray" that I put together myself in a covered container in the fridge. I also make a fresh batch of hummus every week. My dh likes it fresh but no so much after it's been in the fridge.
I have found that if I keep healthy snacks ready to go we are less tempted by the junky stuff.
