?? About things getting worse thread.
Those of you who said you would sell things. Does it make sense to try and sell things when most people won't have the money???

I was just thinking that people who are struggling will not be able to buy things off ebay or wherever if they are in the same predicament as the rest of us.
Wouldn't it be wise to sell things we don't need now and put the money back for stockpiling food and gas???
I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I was just thinking out loud.

When I was reading the thread (getting worse thread), I thought for a moment the same way you did, that there aren't going to be people out there to buy items on Ebay, etc (which I have never even been on :surprise
but I think no matter what the economy is, no matter how many people are struggling, unless there is a huge major depression, some people will always buy and people are still going to need clothes etc, so instead of buying from Dillards or Macy's, those people are going to think that buying things off of ebay, they are saving lots of money, which they will be. I personally won't be buying anything new soon, and concentrating my money on other things, but if everyone thought frugal thoughts, I wonder how different the world would be........

I agree I think no matter what people will buy. I do not think that things will get as bad as the Great Depression of the 30's and 40's and so people will continue to buy even though they really can not afford it. I have a coworker who although we have talked at length about the state of the economy and there are several older, in good condition homes around here for $70-$80 thousand felt the need to buy a new $144 thousand dollar home.:surprise:
Now she is bitterly complaining about her lack of money...GO FIGURE!!Baby Step #1 Done!

I'm wondering that too since I'm having very little luck selling things now. The market seems slow in my area (consignments, second hand shops, local ads & such), but online would have a much larger base to sell to. Guess it depends on what it is & who's look to buy at the time. Not sure many would be interested in collectibles & such if the economy really takes a dive, but you can never tell.

I think selling just depends on who is buying and you just never know who is wanting to buy whatever it is you may have to sell. Just give it a try is all you can do and see what happens!

Ebay wouldn't do me any good if things get to much worse ,
as I will not have my computer going at all, or dish or home phone.
( they are not necessities ) I will have a trac phone with 60 minutes for emergency's only.To be One With The Universe In Spirit, Mind and Body

People may not be in the market for collectibles, but then, some people that have never purchased "second hand" might decide to give it a try if they need something.
I always check ebay first before making a purchase. I bought my calculator for College Algebra at half the price of a new one, and it was only used by the original owner for one semester. My DH and I are both using it for classes now, and when we are done, I can probably turn around and sell it on ebay for nearly what I paid (maybe more, who knows?). I have purchased textbooks, a digital voice recorder, and digital camera from ebay, saving LOTS of money over purchasing at a local retailer.

I still think people will buy used. Probably more then now. Clothes, and everyday things probably more. IMO.
I am trying to sell what i can now, and hike up savings. Just in case.

Thanks for all you thoughtful answers. They make sense.
I just wonder if things are going to get so bad that we will not be able to use credit or anything like that, that Ebay would require. Everything would have to be in cash or gold?? I dunno.~Non-Mortgage Debt: $2,440.95~

I don't think it will get that bad. We wont ever see anything like the depression but I do think it will be a while before we see it get any better. We need a new face in office first.
