Your prices are determined to some extent by your geography. I about fall out of my chair to read what some people pay for things like milk or meat. I just live in a really cheap part of the country. However, I think some things are deals regardless.

I generally only buy chicken breasts or tenderloins in a 2-5lb bag and only usually when they have a buy one, get one deal going on. Then I stock up as my little freezer will allow because that is one of the items we really do burn through.

Buy whatever you can out of the manager's special areas that still has a day to go or more and looks good. Usually the meat is discounted up to 75%. I refuse to pay full or even sale price sometimes for beef because there is usually just so much of it in the manager's special bins. Organic products end up there pretty often too, so always worth a look. Just go home and toss it in the freezer.

Of course you could always buy a whole/half/quarter animal if you have the space.

    Free!!!!!

I live in Massachusetts, so before anyone falls over, it is expensive here.

These are the 'sale' prices where I shop. Occassionally I will pay more per pound if it's a bogof (buy one get one free) because it still works out to be less.

    Chicken Breast (boneless) 1.99/lb fresh
    Chicken legs .49/lb fresh
    Ground Turkey 1.99/lb
    Pork chops 1.99/lb
    London broil 1.79/lb

I also don't buy 'pieces' often. I get whole chickens, I can get 5 days of meals out of one chicken
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I literally laughed when I saw your "expensive" Massechusetts meat prices..double each of those is around our meat priced. Fortunatly, DFH is a butcher at the store, so we ONLY have mark-down meat. LOL...we might not have ANYTHING else, but we've always got meat

Oh good...I don't feel so bad now LOL
I'd probably put the majority of it towards the boneless chicken and pork chops...

I know that price varies wildly depending on where you're at, but these are the sale prices that I buy meat for. Regular priced meats are just not an option here, as they are way too high for my budget.

Chicken Breast (boneless) $2 or less/lb
    Chicken legs $0.69/lb or less
Chicken strips I don't buy these unless in the mark down bin, I usually just cut my blsl chicken breasts into strips before cooking

    Ground Turkey don't buy
Turkey breast $0.99/lb, but we don't eat much turkey at all

Pork chops $1.29/lb, but again, we rarely buy pork

London broil $2.50/lb our local Food Lion is having a sale with these 50% off right now, making them almost that price
    Roast $2//lb

we also buy whole chickens for around $0.69/lb, and sometimes extra lean ground beef (we don't like the flavor of the fattier mixes) when we can get it for less than $2.50/lb. We only use 1/2 lb for meals though, since it doesn't "shrink" down from fat loss when cooked like regular ground beef

Yup, that's me. The store has to dump when it is close to the "Sell By" date and I swoop in and get as much as I can afford and stuff into my freezer.

Tomorrow I'm getting whole chickens at $.55/lb (advertised special) in addition to my usual discounted specials.

I got two huge packs of pork chops for .99/ lb a month or so ago. I repackaged them and froze them. I also have super lean hamburger I got fro 1.69/lb. Round roast I buy at less than 1.79/lb and chuck roast has to be reaaaaalllly cheap for me to buy since it's rather fatty. Pork roasts I get when they are about 1.48/lb.

I think you will find that prices vary widely across the United States. I try to pay less than 2.00 a pound for meats. BUT having said that, I buy on sale and markdown and usually get it for way less. I recently got 16 boneless spare ribs for 4.00. I've gotten whole chickens for .49 a pound, hamburger for .99- 1.28 a pound, etc.

Here is what I pay for these items on the lowest sale I can remember lately......

Chicken Breast (boneless) 1.99 a pound
Chicken legs I don't normally buy these
Chicken strips I don't buy these either. I buy either breasts or thighs and I can get thighs for .59 a pound alot of times
Ground Turkey I don't buy this
Turkey breast Our Walmart had whole turkeys for .49 a pound week before last. I never buy just the breast unless it's deli sliced meat which I pay 3.99 - 4.99 a pound for

Pork chops I only buy boneless. I pay about 4.00 for a pack of 6-7 at Walmart

Roast Our IGA runs beef roasts on sale for anywhere from 1.69-1.99 a pound. I also buy pork butt roasts for .98 a pound.
