Opinions about Encrusted Crazy Quilt Online Class

Hi again. It might not be frugal, but next week is my birthday and I was thinking of joining this online class. It's called Encrusted Crazy Quilts. Has anyone ever taken it or known anyone else who has? Did they like it, think it was worth it?

Eve, I found this free online class for beginners. I went to ASK.com and typed in "How Do You Make A Crazy Quilt?" and got several options. These instructions look very easy. This page is Part I. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the Part II link.

I've never tried the site you listed but it seems way overpriced to me with all of the free information that can be found today online. Now if they were supplying all of your fabrics, embellishments, and threads needed for several blocks then it would be a better deal but in my opinion, still too costly.

Crazy quilting is very simple to do. All you need is a good quilting book on crazy quilting which you can get at most libraries.

hehe, thanks for the links ladies! i've been thinking about it and i wonder if maybe i'm just craving some structure with my crafting (as well as awesome ideas).

So far I have found contemporary quilts: landscapes books in my library, but that is as close as I have found. i also got out an embroidery book.... sadly, my library is closed for the next week! ack! when they reopen (with their snazzy new computerized check out systems) i will search for CQ books.

boy do i miss being able to get my books from half.com!

You know, I found I just needed to be around other people who quilt/stitch/rug hook. It was enough to bounce ideas of each other and stay motivated. It gave me someone to share with and get critiques from (as I got to critique them). And it also gives you access to more experienced people who might even be able to show you how to crazy quilt.

Eve, I just realized that you live in London! How awesome! I've never been there but read Historical Romance Novels about your country and would love to go there someday.

But, on the quilting issue. I hope your library is as packed with quilting books as mine is but I have no idea how your library might be stocked. I also am not aware of the "in person" classes that might be available at a fabric store in your area. But, I am aware that there are many quilting "Guilds" in the UK having seen them online. The UK has received outstanding awards in quilting both locally & Internationally. You might try calling a few local book stores also to see what they have in stock. It may be that your best option is to use the link you suggested for a more "in-debth" visit to crazy quilting. We can't always do things free and/or cheap and good lessons are quite valuable.

Does this help? There are lots of different guilds to email and I bet you coud find someone in your area to personally teach you crazy quilting and many other styles.

YES that helps a lot, thank you so much!

I'm actually from Philadelphia and I am trying to make some quilting buddies here in London.

I would highly recommend that you visit London, btw- I love it here.
