Default Does anyone else just LOVE Fabric & Quilting?

I'm so hooked on fabric and quilt patterns! LOL. I'm not kidding! Although, I have only been quilting since 2002/2003 and only make 1 to 3 quilts a year, depending on their size. To me it's the most satisfying craft I've ever done.

Every week or two I browse the library shelves to see what I've missed and usually take home atleast 5 quilt pattern books to look over. I will copy patterns and instructions from atleast 1 of those books and yet, I already have several hundred books and patterns, lol.

I'm also really addicted to fabric! I can't seem to pass up a piece of fabric in a thrift store. But, I do keep the cost down by not visiting my local quilt store or big chain store unless I absolutely cannot find a big enough piece of fabric for the backing.

I love the whole process of making a quilt. The colors and designs just SPEAK to me.

Does anyone else LOVE quilting and if so, why?

Obsessed would be the term I would use for myself. I can wipe out my whole EF with one visit to the fabric store. So like you I haunt the thriftstores. My husband knows that from 8am til 9 am I'm gonna be sitting in the livingroom watching the quilting shows on the education channel. I buy quilting books, magazines and pattern books from any place I find them I currently have 5 large rubbermaid totes full of fabric waiting to be turned into quilts. I have a list of quilts that I want to make and have collected the means to make them all I lack is the time. 2 or 3 years with nothing eles to do might get me caught up but I think my family would miss eating meals. lol

Obessed would be me too has you already know. It's my passion. I quilt everyday, all year long.

I can't pass up a quilting store, love fabric and fat quarters, quilting books and magazines. I have smartened up though and get my books and magazines from the library in town.

I still have enough material to last me for quite some time. I've been quilting now for well over 20 years and will continue to quilt as long as I can.

Oh, yeah, that's me! I'm also obsessed with it. I do some form of quilting or sewing every day. I love the feel of fabrics.....I'm the fabric fondler you see in the store I love the finished projects, and have way too many projects on my to-do list. I love quilting magazines and books although I did give up my subscriptions a couple of years ago. Has anyone found that their tastes change over the years? I have a chest FULL of magazines because I can't bear to part with them. I know when I get a new magazine a particular quilt won't entice me at all, but a couple of years later when I re-visit the magazine that same quilt will be gorgeous LOL Re-reading magazines is like getting a brand new one most of the time

Default Addicted to fabric and quilting

Me too!! Am blessed to have a sewing room to store everything and to sew for hula groups who give the leftover fabric from their costumes to me.

    I've been quilting since I was 22 - so it's 41 years for me.

Always have several quilting projects going - I am going to finish appliqueing my king size Hawaiian quilt this year!! I'm also working on wall hangings for that perfect spot in our living room!!

What fun to chat with others who share the samae love!!

Me to, I love to sew. I got into quilting about 3 years ago, and have made several things, by several I mean probably 4-5 projects a month. They are all pieced but many are not quilted. I have no patience for hand quilting, so the smaller quilts I machine quilt and the larger ones I have the quilt shop long arm them. I only have them do 2 a year because of the cost, so many are just stored for that day. Now if I need a gift I take one out and have it done.

I have my own sewing room, and when our daughter gets married later this summer and she is gone I will move out of that room into her bedroom. I have it all planned out in my head, it is one project I can't wait to tackle. I have had the fabric for the curtains for years. Just waiting till that room becomes mine.

As for fabrics I have tons of fat quarters, just love how nice and neat they looked all stacked up.
I only buy fabric from the quilt shop to use on my quilts, personally it is a better quality than your store chains, and if I time it right I can get it for a good price, fabric is one thing I am not cheap on.

Use to sew clothing all the time, in fact our daughter never had store bought clothing till she was in middle school, except for jeans and undies. I still make all her jammie pants, and every scrub top she has I have made, she is always complimented on them. I have made every curtain/drape in my house, and every pillow has been made. For pillow forms I either get them from the thrift store or wally world cheap and then just cover them with new fabrics. All the pillow cases I have made also, then I can add to them, such as lace, cross stitch and such.

Yep I am addicted to sewing, that room of mine is my sanctuary.

Hi, my name is Kim and I'm addicted to fabric and quilting! I've only been sewing/quilting for about 5 years, but I LOVE it. It is very relaxing for me. I have soo much fabric at home, I just love looking at it and touching it and pondering what I'm going to do with it. I have soooo many projects to do, I have about 3 started right now I'm trying to finish. I need to finish a quilted table topper for a gift for Monday, but then I'm going to finish a quilt I started for myself!

    Happy sewing!

Mauimagic, I'd love to see your quilt when your done with it. Please post a photo to the site. I am currently working on a flip flop quilt made out of old Hawaiian shirts and some fabrics I picked up at the Pearl Ridge Flea Market the last time we were on Ohau. I love the colors!

I'm also a quilting addict. I have to take classes to get away from the family or I would be constantly interupted.

Laurie - would love to see your Hawaiian fabric quilt!!

I'll post a picture of my Hawaiian quilt as soon as I figure out how to do it!! It is almost done being appliqued. The pattern is ulu - or breadfruit - lots of curves and points. A wonderful Hawaiian quilter designed the pattern for me - years ago. I try to quilt on it every day.

    Happy quilting!!
