You don't have to. You can arrange the blocks and sashing however you want. i just chose to do it like that because this is a lap quilt of 4 x 5 blocks. Usually they are grouped four blocks to make a larger block with sashing around that. Or in a zigzag row with sashing above and below.

Love the picture Peanut - mahalo!!

Need to find the site that I was looking at the other night with squares made of two big triangles and a rectangle of string pieces across the diagonal - think the woman was from Finland - very striking. I'll search after our yard sale!!

I tend to work out of my stash, now that I have one. And when I see fabric sales, I stock up on my favorite colors. We're going to Amish country in a month, and I'm already plotting to increase my stash with the clearance fabrics there!

My stash was increased by a generous friend today. I am going to have to put in some serious sewing time with all the beautiful fabric people have given me!

I took my quilt-as-you-go quilt to a quilting group with large tables and cut the final strips for the sides...and the batting. I'll be able to sew it all together soon.

I also took a scrap quilt I designed called Calliope and sandwiched it. That's two unfinished projects worked on. My stash is slowly being whittled down in size. And, with these quilts sewn and out of my sewing room, I'll have a lot more room in here.

I miss having a group to quilt with. The groups here meet at night (too far away) or during the day while I'm at work. Oh well, time will come. At least I've got my dgd to sew with every now and then and that is a precious treat!

That sounds like fun! I sorted through my christmas fabric a couple of weeks ago. Where does it all come from?? I'd like to make a holiday quilt, but not much time, maybe I'll make a table runner out of some of my stash. Hmm, off to look for a pattern!
