    Default using up the stash

Compared to others, I don't have a huge stash, but being in frugal village I want to use up what I have.

I'm planning to cut up strips of Aunt Grace fabrics and make a string quilt.

Anyone else working out of their stash?

I just began a paper pieced hexagon quilt out of fabric that I bought at least 4 years ago. And I've never paper pieced before! I love handstitching the pieces together and that my project is portable.

What's a string quilt? I'm always up for learning a new quilting technique!!

Scrap usage - I've made nap quilts for all of my preschoolers - Nap time looks like an ad for a quilt magazine - so cute!!
    - Right now I'm working on a crocheted fabric rag rug - my first and I'm loving it.
-Last Christmas I made Holiday pillows for all the aunts and uncles (12) out of holiday fabric.

That's all I can think of now.

Looking forward to hearing morea bout string quilting!!

I've been gathering my scrapes together to finish up a postage stamp topper I was given. Its about the size of a tablecloth now and I want to expand it to a queen or king picnic throw. Alot of the colors are dark and heavy. Figure it'll work well. Hoped to have it done by the 4th of July but its starting to look like the 4th of 2010. Just one of many projects sitting in a tub waiting for time. haha

I don't think I can post links yet.....but if you goggle string quilts you'll get the idea. Similiar to paper piecing except it's a variety of strips sewn together.

    Hope this will help.

Mahalo Vickilynn, I'll give googling string quilts a go. A 'duh' moment for me as I didn't think of doing that myself!!

I have sooo much fabric and about 10 quilt kits I need to put together. I'm only buying fabric if I can't find anything out of my stash to use to finish what I'm working on. A FANTASTIC site that explains how to use your stash and how to organize it is quiltville dot com. She has tons of free patterns and lots of great tips. Plan on spending at least an hour or two when you check out her site! LOL Enjoy!

Thanks for the site and for the warning about the time I'll spend there.

I look forward to spending a few hours in my sewing room this weekend. I'll do some prep work tonight...cut out pj pants, oil machine, wind some bobbins.

    happy stitching

Oh, I love www.quiltville.com!! I also love making scrap quilts. I used a pattern from Quiltville and printed off a few others I want to try. There is another one I'm saving scraps for, something about "crumbs" using the very small scraps.

So many projects and just not enough time in my day!!

I am working on my stash. Right now I'm sorting it and tossing things too small or wrecked to use. I have a whole bunch of pieces cut for string quilts. And a mess of fabric folded and stored.

Thanks for the Quiltsville link. I have some men's shirting I wasn't sure what to do with, and there is a quilt made of men's shirts behind her in the photo on the opening page!

last night I spent cutting strips to make string quilt. Filled up a box with strips, now to make some blocks!

My goal is to use up this stash from who knows when and only buy what I absolutely need.

I can't wait to see your quilt Vickilynn, be sure to post pictures! Cutting is my least favorite thing about quilting. I don't mind the sewing or the pressing, but don't like the cutting. LOL

I have also made a pact to only buy something to finish a project, no new fabric just because I like it...

    Happy quilting all!
