Question Have you ever thought of a recycled quilt?

I always said I would never do this, but I've found some of the most beautiful material in some aprons and I begin to think about what type of quilt I could make with recycled material. Our foremothers did, why can't we.

    Thoughts?

I am thinking of taking some old curtains and making an apron from them.
Now I just need a pattern. I have 1 in my head just not good at getting from my mind to paper.

I would love to do this. I think of victorian crazy quilts. Mine would be much less crazy though! I think it is a frugal way to do something you love. One of my quilts that grandma made has material sent to her in the 50's from a friend that worked in a dress factory. She saved the scraps her work would throw away and sent them to her friends. It makes me think of a long distance hug.

I have done this! My first quilt has some curtain material in it.
I originally made the curtains when we first moved in this house 14 years ago, then 3 years ago I decided to try making a quilt. I remade the curtains in a different style and used the "scraps" to put in a quilt for the twin bed in our spare room. I like things to match!

    I like the Jeans idea

I have never done quilting myself, do you back the quilts with more material?

I always imagined a quilt WAS re-cycled materials (is there another way? duh?)

Anyway my child really wants a fleece blanket - someone bought me one as a present and they are so cuddly The kids have LOTS of fleece leggings, jackets and stuff they've grown out of and I was 'considering' trying to make her a blanket out of those. It would be so much more colourful too.

I made a jeans quilt, nothing fancy, just big squares.... It is durable and we use it on the ground at picnics....

I think it's great. I used to laugh when my mother would eye our clothes thinking about where she could use it in her next quilt. Now I find myself doing the same thing!
