Fabric questions
Ok. I have a couple of questions for ya.
1.How do you find out what a fabric is made of when all you have is a remnant? I have 2 that don't have anything printed on the salvage (sp?) I found these remnants in my old craft box in the garage. I know I bought them at Wal-mart several yrs back.
2. Can 100% cotton that has been treated with scotch guard be used in a quilt, quillow, etc? I have a great remnant I would like to do something with.
TIA

Here are your answers.
1. 100% cotton is light in weight, closely woven so has not to fray, and they hold a crease well. You can usually tell by that. Make sure it isn't part polyester because polyester is highly flammable and you don't want that on a quilt, especially if it is being used as such. Polyester will burn if lit with a match and has a horrible smell to it.
2. In using 100% cotton that has been treated with Scotch guard - my concern would be does the Scotch guard burn easily.
If you have any doubt, take the material into a quilting store and they can tell you immediately what kind of material it is. Even if you don't have a quilting store, Walmart would be able to help you in the sewing department.

Thanks CJ. I will probably just use them in a wall hanging or something small. I never thought of asking the quilt store/wally world. good idea.
