Quilting tutorial FAQ's - PLEASE READ
I've been asked a couple of questions so I'm going to try and answer them here so that everyone can read them. Also if anyone has questions, please ask them in this post and I'll answer them as quickly as I can.
Backing - Don't purchase any for now. I'll talk about backing for your quilt as we proceed further along. Also, there are different ways to go in backing and you might change your mind. Backing can usually be purchased at Walmart but there are other neat ways to do backing - so my advice, wait!!
Batting - Again don't purchase any right now. There are different types of batting and as we progress further along in the quilting tutorial, I'll talk about different types. Also you may end up wanting to make a larger quilt or wall hanging once you start.
Amount of material - most of you will probably purchase 10 fat quarters, 5 light and 5 dark with an added one of yellow. Because it will be easier for the tutorial and pictures, I'm using all fat quarters to make the blocks, that way I'll know the exact cuts and it will be easier to describe in the tutorial.
Amount of material - part#2 - Please do not purchase any material for your sashing, border or binding. There is a reason for this and again I'll explain it once we get closer to ending the blocks.
Quilting by hand - for those who won't have a sewing machine to begin with, you'll need general purpose needles and when you come to hand quilting the quilt once it is done, you'll need special needles called "betweens". I use #9. The larger the number, the smaller the hole to thread.
Thread - You'll need 100% cotton and I like to use neutral colors rather than changing colors for different colors of material.
If you have anymore questions, could you post them here and I'll answer them.

mom2knk~ JoAnn calls them by both names! They are both 18x22 in size, but the ones that are rolled and kept in a bin (that's how the store here does it) are referred to as fat quarters... the ones that are folded into flat squares and displayed in little clear square cases on the wall are referred to as quater flats. I have no idea why they do that - it's the same thing! ROFL!
It is going to be too expensive for me right now to purchase all the fq's/material I would need. I have plenty of fq's, but not enough that would look right together in a quilt. I am going to follow this tutorial by reading, but not participate. Instead, I am planning on trying my hand at a ragged homespun quilt (the one from the JoAnn website) using ds's old baby clothes I've been saving.
