Tutorial part #2 has been posted
This is very important and one you might think is quite simple to do. Please practise for a few days so that you can get this done right. You might think this isn't worth doing, but in the long run, you'll be happy you've done this.
I'm still waiting for the pictures to arrive at Sara's, so we will have a few days to get caught up and do some practising.
If you have any questions, please post them here and I'll answer as quickly as I can.
Have fun!!
btw - for those who are starting late, you might also want to practise cutting with your rotary tool. I have a thread on that one here in the quilting forum.

Where has it been posted? I don't see a thread with part #2 in the thread title - I am probably overlooking it though......... it's been one of those weeks.

Quiltermom - its sticked to the top of the quilting forum and is in the quilting tutorial. I think its the 3rd post. I don't want a ton of threads so I've added it there.
Once the pictures are scanned, I will have a couple of different threads but until then, everything is in the one thread.

Okay, that's what confused me - the thread title only said #1 on it before and I see you have changed it to say parts #1 and #2 now. Thanks - that makes a lot more sense to me.

CJ... my 1/4" seam is less than the edge of my presser foot. Can I adjust this or do I have to just sew with the edge of my fabric there? Its kind of hard for me to mark it with tape or anything because its in by the little things that move the fabric along.
Its 1/8 more than 1/4 if I sew at the edge of the foot.Sherry

Sherry, sorry NOPE you can't. It has got to be 1/4 inch seam allowance - there is no getting around it or every block you make, whether the tutorial or any other block in quilting, you'll be out and no block will work out.
There has got to be a way to mark it, either with masking tape, a marker (that doesn't come out) or as in my sewing machine, I already have it in the computer in the sewing machine.

How is everyone coming along with this? Could you post and let me know if you've done it or where you are.

Ok CJ. My 1/4 in is also right across my feed dogs. I can change the needle position on my machine. When I do this I can get 1/4 in using the "guide" lines. My question is this... will it be ok to move the needle to the far right position or will this mess up the block. I sewed on scraps and measured several times and they all came out 1/4 in. I am thinking that this will work ok? Am I right?
Thanks.
Melody
P.S. I am going to try that tip from mrsengeseth about using a popsicle stick as a "bumper" to guide my fab.

Frugalmel, yes you can has long as you have a 1/4 in. seam allowance when your sew.
I can't stress enough how important this is. If you don't get this worked out, your quilting will become a work of frustration because none of your blocks will work out right!!

Sherry, just as info the "little things that move the fabric along" are called "feed dogs". In case you ever need to know, these can be adjusted on most machines especially if you want to embroider or do the satin stitch around an applique. Its kind of hard for me to mark it with tape or anything because its in by the little things that move the fabric along.~~ Dee ~~
