    Unhappy Rotary Cutter Wound

Okay its time to fess up, am I the only one who has had a rotary cutter wound on the quilting tutuorial. I know I was not being as careful as I should have been. It was last night and I was behind and hurrying to get my squares all cut out. I had just finished cutting some but needed to readjust my cloth because the cat had jumped on it and pulled it off the mat. I managed to hit the knuckle on my index finger (left hand) on the rotary cutter in my right hand. OUCH CJ was right when she said be careful. I barely touched the cutter and it cut my skin. Nothing big but it made me think how dangerous this thing really is. I was so much more careful after that. I am still behind on the tutorial but I will not rush again. I learned my lesson, bandaids and bactine are part of the quilters supplies LOL.

Ouch is right. I cut my finger once and that was enough. Always, always close it after every cut!!!

Don't rush with the tutorial. Just take your time so that you enjoy doing it. I'm not going to rush with the other blocks, just taking my time. I want everyone to enjoy quilting.

Glad your working at it. You take care of that cut though has they can get infected easily.

I used my best friends rotary cutter and was not used to it and sliced my thomb. Blood went everywhere, but we both started sqealing the fabric, move the fabric. LOL I am much more careful, even with my own now.

Frugalmel, hope your ouch heals quickly. It is amazing how sharp those things are. I have now put mine up on a high shelf just to make sure no one messes with it.

Ouch. Sorry you got cut. Glad it isn't too bad.

So far I haven't cut myself on it but I was strongly advised by a quilter on another board last year of the perils of the rotary cutter.

After I started using it, I realized why.

I keep mine hidden in my sewing drawer and dh and ds are "never" allowed to use it. I told them it was too dangerous and that they would dull it and then it wouldn't work good. So hopefully I've fixed that issue.

Everyone!! Be very careful. Rotary cutters are great but they are very dangerous too.
