Thumbs up Quilting heaven - not frugal but well worth it

I joined a craft bookclub. Don't throw any tomatoes at me, I know its not frugal but ooooooooh so well worth it.

Here are the books I got. The first 3 are free, and then I only have to purchase 2 over a period of 2 years.

The Simple Joys of Quilting by Joan Hanson and Mary Hickey. There are 30 wonderful quilting projects and all step by step instructions. There are also tips for rotary cutting, quick piecing and block settings, plus fast finishing methods.

Threaded Together The Pink Ribbon Quilt Project which was a quilt made for breast cancer. A friend is going to get this one.

Cozy Cabin Quilts by Lynette Jensen one of my favorite quilting authors. There are 20 projects for the home in it. The projects celebrates getaways and retreats. Thimbleberries has wonderful projects and wonderful, wonderful material.

The Art of Classic Quiltmaking by Harriet Hargrave and Sharyn Craig. This book goes beyond quilting basics to give you the ability to explore your own quilting style. Tons of questions answered. Loading with information you need to make traditional quilts. Also has over 80 quilts shown. (lots and lots of great stuff in this book)

So if your wanting some great books to find at the library, here are a few!!!!

Cozy Cabin Quilts. I just Thimbleberries. I also got Joanns book of creativity, but it was on back order so it has not come yet.

mylittle4 - I love Thimbleberries too. Lynette Jensen's patterns are so well written up and her instructions are so easy to follow. She is such a down to earth person and I love her books.

Not throwing any tomatoes, I think that any method of getting books for any subject is a wonderful thing to do. I used to be in a few different book clubs, but had to stop when i moved . I would love to get started again someday. Enjoy your books!

I am glad that I came across this thread, I have been thinking of joining that same club. It really sounds like a good deal. Are the books that you have to purchase over the next 2 years priced comparably to what you would pay at a book store? That was the only thing holding me back from joining.

Kathy, yes they are worth it. For your free books, get The Art of Classic Quiltmaking. Its the absolute best book and one that I will treasure forever.

It has a ton of wealth in it and worth joining just for that book.

The prices are comparable, its the shipping that costs, but in my opinion, worth it. I just don't get to the city enough to purchase books so this gives me a chance to purchase a few quilting books a year. Calico, I did say few!!

There aren't just quilting books though, there are tons of craft books. The scrapbooking books look awesome. They not only have books, but now they are offering different items as well. They've had fat quarters (yup I ordered those), they've had stamping kits, etc.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it and you only have to purchase 2 books in 2 years.

That sounds like a fantastic deal, and I'd love to get the books you mentioned. Which book club is it?

I found the books you're talking about at http://www.doubleday.com, the deal they're offering online is 5 for $.99 plus 1 free book--I need to read the fine print to see how many I need to buy over what period of time.

    Thanks for the recommendations CJ
