Baby quilts
Late this August my niece will be having her first baby. I would love to make the little one a quilt, have already crocheted a baby blanked completely within 4 days of hearing of her pregnancy. LOL
Question, do you make the blocks small? If so what size? What is a easy pattern to use?

Kindred, you can make the simple nine patch that I've done in the tutorial. Here is a quilt I made for Sara, using that pattern. I'll give you the exact amounts of squares to make a nice size quilt.
You'll need:
24 - 4 1/2 inch squares
48 - 2 1/2 inch squares one color
48 - 2 1/2 inch squares - second color
20 - 2 1/2 inch squares (for putting the blocks together)
32 - 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch rectangles to put the blocks together
Sashing
Backing of choice
Batting of choice
Cut everything out and then sew your blocks together, just as in the quilt that I made. This is a simple quilt to make, you can make it quickly and you can machine quilt it.

Yes I recall seeing that quilt, really nice. I would love to do that one. Can you tell me how much material is needed in each color? I would'nt be able to figure it out.

BTW the cute little fairies? did you have to center those in the square or is that not something I should try?
HUGS and am so excited, as I think this is something my dd could help with..........I do have a seam wripper, willing to work.

Kindred, I can just see you with that sign hanging from your neck:

Robin, rofl.
Kindred - Gheez you have to ask me that. I know I used more for the fairy material because I had to cut those out of the material. You don't have to centre them at all. What you have to do is just cut the 4 1/2 inch square around the fairy or whatever you choose. I knew Sara was having a baby girl and I also knew she was decorating with fairies. But I've done the same pattern with little bears and it is so cute.
If you purchase a yard and a half of print material and then a yard each of the 2 other colors, it should work. Even if you have material left over, you can always use it on another baby quilt. The reason I'm saying that, is because this quilt is so simple to do and you've already done the first block with the quilting tutorial, you'll want to make a couple.
Also what I did was I pulled colors out of the fairy material so that the other material co-ordinated with the fairy material. So if you were to get a piece of material say with bears on it, pull a couple of the colors out of that material to make your small blocks with. Don't make them too dark though because this is a baby quilt.
For the backing I used material I already had.
