Ask CJ thread, lol.
Ever think of something but don't want to start a new thread to ask? Here it is..........lol
Cj do you sign your quilts and date them? If so how?
Do you keep track of every quilt you have ever made?
Do you ever make more than one of a certain quilt?
What was and where is the fist quilt you ever made?
How many quilts do you keep for your master bed? Is there one for the different seasons?

Great idea!!
Where do you get your inspiration?
Do you plan your quilts around the fabric you have or do you go out and buy just what you need for a quilt?

Kindred - too cute. Okay here are my answers.
Do you sign your quilts and if so how? - No I don't although I know I should. When I give quilts to my kids or to my grandkids, I sew a little sign on the back that says, "made with love by grandma" or "made with love by mom". You can purchase those at any sewing/quilting store. I do the same when I make pj's for the grandkids. Quilts that are given to anyone else, I've not signed - bad, bad me!!! I've just never felt the need to sign them.
Do you keep track of every quilt you've made Yes I have a journal and know exactly when I made the quilt, how long it took me to make it, the colors I put in it, where I purchased my material and who I gave it too along with the year I made the quilt in. I have also started taking pictures of all the quilts I make.
Do you ever make more than one of a certain quilt - Yes, I've made a couple Sampler quilts (which I love) and a number of Log cabin quilts (another pattern I love). Quilts like the challenge quilt or the Quilter's Garden quilt, I wouldn't make another one of. The smaller quilts, I don't mind repeating them using different colors.
What was and where is the first quilt you ever made - the first tiny quilt I made is in dd's room and the cat uses it. The first real quilt I made was the Log cabin quilt and it was given to my oldest son and he still has it. It was done in blacks and reds. The next one I made was given to my oldest dd and was the Double Irish chain, done in whites and burgundies. She threw it out when it got a tiny hole in it rather than asking me to fix it!!!
How many quilts do you keep for your master bed and are there one for every season I have one quilt on our bed, a Log cabin one, which was made almost 14 years ago now. The challenge quilt will go on top of that one, once I'm finished hand quilting it. The Quilter's garden I'm keeping for myself (I think). Other than that, all the quilts I've made, I've given away. Its more fun to make a quilt and give it to someone as a gift than it is to keep it!!! As to the seasons, no. I am collecting Christmas type material though, because I have a pattern for a Christmas quilt I eventually want to make.
Where do you get your inspiration From books and magazines and now the net. I still want to make some of my own designs, but with my limited time, I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. For colors, I pick my own colors rather than the colors that are in the books or magazines.
Do you plan your quilts around the colors you have or do you go out and purchase material for the quilt When I do a scrappy quilt, I just use the colors I have already in material. If I plan a specific quilt (like a Sampler) I will purchase material/fat quarters specific to the colors I want. I did a Sampler quilt in blacks/whites with a little hint of rose and I purchased the material specific to that quilt.
Most times though I will go to a quilting store and I'll spot a bolt of material and purchase at least 2 metres of that material, with no quilt in mind. I do the exact same thing with fat quarters - I purchase the ones I like. So when I come out of the quilting store, I often have a couple pieces of material that have jumped out at me and then along with that a number of fat quarters. The last quilt I just finished, I used material I already had here.

I purchase 2 quilting magazines ONLY.
They are McCall's which is a MUST for me. They have a wonderful website as well. http://www.mccallsquilting.com/
And the other one I get is Patchwork & Quilting, Australia's No. 1 Quilting Magazine. You can only get these ones at quilting stores and from what I can gather, they aren't sold in the States (at least thats what I've been told). They are stunning magazines and I get lots of inspiration from this magazine.

Any other magazine, I'll pick up at the library and bring home to look at rather than buy them.
