    Default Log cabin block

Uh oh!!! I finished my log cabin block made from fabric I had, so the colors aren't exactly right. My big problem is its not square!!! ARGH. oh well here is what I ended up with.

    Very pretty Melody. Great job!!

If it doesn't end up quite square, try pressing it and seeing if that helps. Often that does. Also, sometimes when we are doing log cabins, we may go off a bit on the 1/4 inch (trust me, I know from experience). If we do that, especially with a log cabin, you'll end up with a block that isn't quite square.

Because you can't hardly notice it though, the first thing I would do is press it again. Then I'd just square it up with your new ruler.

    Thanks everyone.

CJ here it is with my new ruler. yikes! am I off lol. I think I missed the 1/4 in somplace or several places. I'm having trouble getting my new machine to grab the fabric. Its like the feed dogs are to far back or something. Oh well, I will practice some more.

Mel, you did remember that this block isn't suppose to be 12 1/2 inches, right.

Okay, another thing you might look at. When you cut your strips, did you cut them all 1 1/2 inches wide. I'm asking this because I've made the mistake of cutting a strip the wrong size and then the whole block is wrong. You might just have cut one strip 1/4 inch off (one way or the other) and if you did, your whole block would be wrong.

The other thing, is your centre square the exact size I have in the tutorial.

With your feed dog, check your instruction manual. It should say what the problem is. Also, before I did anymore quilting, I would practise on scrap material until you can get your feed dog right. Just a thought!!

    Thanks Lori

CJ I am not really sure what I have done there. I probably didn't do some things right. (story of my life. ) I thought I had the feed dogs figured out as far as placing the material forward , but I guess not.

I think it's really pretty-especially the blue fabric second one in.
