Question Did anyone quilt their tutorial quilt yet?

I'm at the point of quilting my churn dash block wallhanging, but I haven't a clue what I'm doing. I will be doing it by hand because I don't have a walking or darning foot for my machine.

I read CJ's directions, but I'm not really following them. I need more of a visual to understand.

    Did anyone do theirs yet?

Here's a link to the block I am making into the wallhanging for my mom.

Michelle, because its so small, you shouldn't need a walking foot for your quilting. Here is a link that might help you:

    http://www.cottonwoodquilts.com/quilting.htm

There is also a link there to choosing colors.

The walking foot is used because of the thickness from the layers, though, no? I don't think my machine can handle it. I was having trouble with it feeding the layers of what I made already, let alone adding 2 more layers

Michelle, I'm not sure I understand what your saying. You only have one layer done, is that not right? Just the top?

If you just have the top, use Warm & Natural as your batting, and cotton material for your backing, it would just be like putting a pot holder together. Working with Warm & Natural as your batting would be perfect for this wall hanging and because of the size, it would be easy to quilt. I've actually done a double quilt with Warm & natural and never used a walking foot.

Yes, but I was having trouble getting over the seams as they intersected.

I would do this, but I'm not sure I can get out to buy some before Christmas.

Shucks I wish I was closer, I'd drop some off to you.

Then if you use polyester batting, your going to need a hoop if you hand quilt it. You can't hand quilt without a hoop or a quilting frame. Because its not quilt size, you'd use a 14 inch hoop, possibly smaller.

You don't have a lot of quilting that needs to be down. I would just quilt inside each square and then I would put a heart or some type of motif in the centre.

I know--that's why I was planning to hand quilt it. I do have a hoop.

What I don't understand is the actual quilting part, and I don't know what that means when you say "...just quilt inside each square..."

It looks like I will need her help. I would have loved to have done it for her all by myself, but I'm so stressed out right now, that I'm past the point of worrying about what she thinks of it.
