rulers slipping
I have tons of questions and haven't even started. rofl
I am concerned about my ruler slipping or sliding.
I wondered if anyone has any tips to prevent this. I've heard things like using the rulers with lips on them, adding sandpaper to under the ruler, and omnigrid has a product called Invisigrip. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. CJ will know this for sure, but I believe sandpaper is the easiest choice. I'm so glad that you are having fun getting ready to sew!

I've been quilting now for almost 17 years and I've never used anything on my rulers. They do not slip if you have your hand properly positioned.
We purchased those sandpaper thingies and they didn't make any difference at all. You can also get a handle grip to put on your ruler, so that it holds the ruler in place. It too doesn't work, in fact it made it harder for dd to cut. It came off and we donated it to goodwill.
The only time you might have your ruler slip, is when your cutting longer pieces of material and your using a 6 x 24 inch ruler. You then just need to be extra cautious as to how you place your hand on your ruler.

I use a product made by Dritz called Clear Fabric Grippers. They are for rulers and templates. They are clear and circular-shaped. You just peel them off the paper backing and stick them to the underside of your ruler or template. They have worked great for me. I got them at JoAnn.

If you hold the ruler down hard enough, it shouldn't slip, but they do have rulers with a lip on them.

I have both a ruler with a lip on it and one without. I use the one with the lip the most, but then again that is my 24" ruler, the other one is only 14" long.

I have to disagree with Milach, (sorry Milach
) if you are using to much pressure to hold your ruler down you can lose your control and your hand may slip and you could end up with a nasty cut. I sliced a nice piece of the edge of my little finger off by using that same theory. I agree with CJ, it is the way that you hold it that helps it stay put, proper positioning of your hand is the key.

Am I weird?? I broke the lip off of mine, but it didn't break enough to make me throw it out. So i take little clamps...bought them on discount table at home depot. they are spring clamps with rubber over the tips. Anyhow, i line up my fabric on my mat, line up my ruler, and clamp the whole thing to the table. it keeps me from cutting myself, and because my hands some times shake, i have no worry of shaking th eruler causing uneven cutting.
(The clamps are on the opposite side from the side i am cuttin on)

My ruler doesn't slip too often, but I'd still like to try the Invisigrip. Anything that makes quilting easier for me is most welcome
