    Default quilting templates?

Does anyone use the acrylic templates or make their own?

I always make my own, but for beginner's I would recommend a couple your sure of using.

The one thing about making your own, is that you need to be so careful when cutting with them. Its so easy to cut a bit off the template, even just a sliver and then your block is off.

They don't sell a lot of templates in our vicinity of the woods, in fact you seldom even see them in Winnipeg. Most quilters actually make their own and its just been in recent years they've come out with acrylic templates.

I do know if I was to find a couple of templates that I use often, I would definitely purchase them.

I bought them for mine, but it can get to be quite pricey, especially if you're doing something with alot of different shapes and sizes to it. I've heard cereal boxes can make wonderful templates

I used some the other day for the friendship blocks, and my triangles came out great

(I just used the ones in the directions for the blocks: http://ttsw.com/Blocks/TrianglePapers/Triangles.html )

I just may do all my triangles this way--no measuring any 7/8ths

I have seen the acrylic sheets so you can make your own. I also saw these handles that you can attach to them. Not sure if some people would want handles or not. I wondered with the handles being suction cupped on if they would slip off. This got me to looking for some with handles. lol

    I found these:

The handles with suction cups do slip off. We purchased one for dd and when we tried them, it wasn't long before they slipped off.
