Memory quilts
Has anyone ever done one of these?
I'm thinking of making one for my FIL with pictures of his mother on there as well as other things in the blocks that will remind him of her.
He's not really into the quilt "style", but he is sentimental, and I think he'd really like it.

Michelle, I have never done one but I've seen a complete quilt show that was all memorial quilts of some sort. They were awesome!!
Lots of work, but a wonderful gift to give someone.

I really want it to be special. I need to dig around online and see if I can find something that he'd like style-wise as well as one that is to my ability.
If anyone sees any online, I'd appreciate it if you could post the links. Thanks
Oh, and one more thing. My dh thinks that it would be too sad to make. I guess it depends on the person, but what do you all think? For those of you who don't know, she passed away in January. I don't want it to be painful for him. I may actually wait a bit and give it to him next January or maybe on her birthday NEXT year when the "wound" isn't as fresh.

I think it would be a lovely gift to give on the death of her anniversary. Whether its the one year anniversary or the second year, I'm not sure at which point you should give it to him.

I am really sad now that I don't have any of her old clothing to add
It looks like it will just be a quilt with pictures of her and other family members added to some of the squares.

Chelle, does your FIL have some or any of Dave's family (not sure if he has other family)?

There's a 'feud' of sorts going on now, and the clothes were a sore spot and were already taken to Goodwill, as far as I know. The only chance I have at getting something like that would be asking my SIL, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't have any either.
I still think it will be nice without the clothes though, so I'm trying hard not to dwell on that

I think this is a very good idea, Michelle. Goodluck in this very special project.
