    Exclamation Quilting tip #18

Did you know that chlorine can cause a fabric to run, even if the dye is very stable?

I received a newsletter in the mail a couple days ago and it has a few tips on washing our fabric. This is one of them. We don't put chlorine in our washing machines when we wash our fabric, BUT there is chlorine in our drinking water.

When you go to wash your fabric, smell your water first. (You won't have this problem if your on a well.) If you smell chlorine, do not wash your fabric that day. (This was one thing that use to be awful when we lived in Winnipeg. There was seldom a day that you didn't smell chlorine.) If you have constant chlorine problems, Sodium Bisulphate will neutralize the chlorine, making the water safe for the dyes. You can check with a pool company or extension agent for % of bisulphate needed for your levels of chlorine.

A new tip that I just learnt a couple days ago.

Thanks CJ, I don't have this problem now because we have a well. But when we lived in the city you could smell chlorine sometimes.

Thanks for the tip, I should really watch for this because we are on town water now and I do notice at different times the odour of chlorine is much stronger.
