Talking A huge booboo I did make

For the past couple of weeks, I've been busy making wall hangings. As soon as I figure out my camera, I'll be able to post some pictures.

All the squares in all the wall hangings I've done so far, are to be cut 3 1/2 inches and once the triangle squares are done, should measure 3 1/2 inches as well. I'm quilting along my merry way and finish a wall hanging today.

I need to put a border around the wall hanging and cut 2 strips 9 1/2 inches long, exactly as the instructions say. I go to put this 9 1/2 inch strip (doubled) on my quilt and guess what, my quilt is 40 x 40 inches, just a tad bigger than 18 1/2 inches long.

I then read the instructions and instead of the squares being 3 1/2 inches they are only suppose to be 2 inches. So instead of this cute little 25 inch square wall hanging, I now have a 40 x 40 inch wall hanging.

How Grand! I think you were under the quilts secret spell, it really wanted to be bigger. Ya ya that's it!

Oh CJ. I thought I was the only one here who kept going and going. LOL That's a nice size lap quilt. I'm sure someone in your family could use it for a long cold winter night.

Oops! It will still be lovely.

Tell me, why is triangle patchwork harder to make than square? My sister made me two wall hangings that are all triangles. One is little, one big. I could take a pic if anyone is interested.

Okay Bethany, you asked so here are my thoughts.

~someone hears the word "triangles" and they panic. They've heard someone say they don't like triangles so they immediately think they won't like triangles.
~they want perfection in their quilts and often with triangles, it takes hours and hours to get "perfection"
~they may not have read the instructions right or found a simple way to do them
~it takes longer to do triangles than a regular pattern, especially if you want all your points to be exact.

I absolutely love triangles. I find them both fun and chellenging. I also don't strive for "perfection" in my quilts. My passion is quilting, so if I have a point off every now and then, I just keep right on quilting. I also love scrappy quilts and many scrappy quilts call for triangles.

Love to have you post pictures.
