Why I love fat quarters
For all of you who are sceptical of purchasing fat quarters because you might think you don't get a lot from one, here is what you can get from one fat quarter as found in this link http://www.atlanticfabrics.com/quilt.html It also explains how to cut a fat quarter from a metre of fabric. (you would do it the same way with a yard of material - the only difference would be a yard of material would make a fat quarter 18 x 22 inches.
5. What can you get from a fat quarter? A unit of measurement for fabric made by cutting a meter of fabric in half and then half again (approx 20" x 22"). From a fat quarter you can get-
99- 2" squares or
50- 2 ½" squares
42- 3" squares
30- 3 ½" squares
20- 4" squares
16- 4 ½" squares
12- 5" squares
12- 5 ½" squares
9- 6" squares
Now I know why I love fat quarters. You can get so much from them and such a variance of different patterns and colors.

:surprise: Oh...um...
...we're supposed to cut them!!
I usually look, sort, touch, look and arrange some more!!
Really though, it's amazing what you can get out of them. Personally I like the variety they give.

I like how they look like I didn't spend much when I come home from shopping. "Oh hi, just got a few tiny pieces of fabric here.: rofl

Seriously, I like that I can pick up a little of this and a little of that and not have to wait at the cutting counter. They are super easy to organize and store too.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online.
