Question Through quilting, what have you learnt about yourself?

I've learnt there is a teacher inside of me. I want to teach quilting to others. I want to give them a gift that will last them a last them a lifetime and one they can pass down from generation to generation.

I've learnt I love simple things. The simpler the pattern, the more I love the quilt. Carolyn (Dolphin) and Chelle made some of the simplest yet most elegant quilts this year.

I've learnt I have to have color around me. I think thats why I find myself relaxing so much when I go into my sewing room. I'm surrounded by color of every kind.

I've learnt (and this is the hardest) that I'm not a finisher. I struggle to complete projects. I have umpteen quilt tops I need to finish quilting. I'd rather just do the tops and then fold the quilt and put it in a drawer until later. I'm the same way in life in general. Its hard for me to complete things.

What about you, what have you learnt through quilting?

I've learned that I can do things even if they appear to be too difficult.

I've learned that if I stay with a project, I can get it done.

I've learned not to be so afraid to try new things.

I've learned that fabric can be an addiction, lol.

I've learned that I have a very short attention span A lot of times I do the hard parts, and when I finish those, I don't finish the rest of the project for some reason.

    I have learned that:

    1. Quilting is fun

    2. I am NOT a finisher

    3. I don't have as much patience as I thought.

    4. Scheduling time for "me" is important

    5. Fabric is as addicting as scrapbooking paper is

    1. I am far more critical of my own work

    2. work done with love is just as valid as work done with skill

    3. you stitch far more than fabric when quilting. you also stitch legacy, love, friendship, and family in each little piece

    4. even with the exact same foundation, quilts are like people, no two are the same, and it's ok if i can't even repeat the same exact block in each row.

Melissa your #3 made me chuckle. You also stitch your finger sometimes to the quilt.

    I love your answers ladies.

I've learned I'm good at starting projects, but bad at finishing them.

I've learned quilting is a wonderful way for me to relax and enjoy some peace and calm.

    1. That I love making the tops but not finishing them, I really have to push myself to do this.

    2. That if I slow down (I have a lead foot when it comes to running the sewing machine) I can make blocks with triangles in them.

    3. The walking foot is the best invention ever!

    4. That out of all the things I have made over the years for people, quilts have received the best responses.
