    Default Window Quilts ?

Has anyone here made quilts for your windows?
I have an idea to make quilts ( like the bed quilt ) only
I want to hang them over the windows next winter for warmth like curtains but one piece and so I can roll them up on warm days.
    Has anyone done this?

This is a really popular window treatment in the North and East. Besides being pretty, they really help to keep the drafts at bay.

Most of the ones I've seen are just 10 or 12 inch blocks and they were faster to sew and they they were lined with plastic on the back to make them even more efficient.

I haven't made any myself because I have lived in the desert for about 6 years now and we don't really get the prolonged cold during the winter and I get seasonal depression so I have to have all of the light coming in that I can.

But, I think it's a great idea and you should try making atleast one set and see how you like them.

Window quilts are a wonderful idea to help keep your home warm. There is only one suggestion I have. Make sure the quilt is kept far enough away from the window that it can't touch the window, especially if you get frost on your windows. If its not, it will freeze to the window. (Ask me how I know)

You can make them fancy or simple. It doesn't matter, its what you decide. They definitely help in keeping the cold out.

    Thanks ,
    I hadn't thought of plastic. (Someting like a shower curtain ? )
How would I get them to roll up?
Could I put like taps on the sides and then fasten them up during the day?
I reaaly want to do this for the bedrooms.

Yes you could put tabs on the side.

You could also roll them up and tie them to the rod the quilt is hanging on.

Mine sure won't be fancy just hopefully country looking.
I will also have a shade behind them for extra warmth.
Our old house is pretty drafty even with the caulking of windows.
I love quilts so decided this is for me.
Thanks for the link. will put in my favorites.

You could sew a pretty ribbon at the top of the window quilt. Then when you roll it up you could just tie it with the ribbon. Easy up, easy down.

Also, I know some have enclosed a magnet inside the quilt and attached a flat washer to wall to keep the quilt against the wall. You could sew several into your quilt and strategically place a few flat washers and wah lah!

Hmm, I've seen this idea before but I don't quilt or have the time/patience for it.
Quilts are inexpensive in stores here; I think I will try purchasing one and modifying it for windows.
