Need quilting suggestions
I tried to ask this question when I was new here, but no one responded. So, I'm trying again.
I have two quilts (approx. crib size) that I brought home from a Project Linus work session this summer. Someone had pieced them then broke her arm and couldn't finish them. I volunteered to bring them home for quilting. Actually I brought home more but left these two till the end because I'm not sure how to quilt them.
Most of my work is fabric art/art quilt kind of stuff. I don't do much traditional quilting. I hand quilt. One is a log cabin and the other is a string quilt. Does anyone have any quilting ideas? These quilt tops are gorgeous and I want to do this right -- would like something a little fancier than just stitching in the ditch.

I love free motion stipple quilting quilt. You'll need a darning foot to do that with. For the quilts I make that are similar to string quilts, I use this method.

At this site, they tie them. http://www.victorianaquiltdesigns.co...arityQuilt.htm
Also because it's a baby quilt you could hand quilt a heart in each block with varigated thread and then do echo quilting (my favorite) around each heart . http://www.nvo.com/poakalani/creatin...loom&UID=10025
As to the log cabin, it depends on the design. Can you tell me what log cabin pattern it is? There are so many it's hard to say how to quilt it.
Even though they are baby quilts, I would hand quilt them both.

I don't usually make traditional quilts, but I think the log cabin is in the barn raising setting -- well sort of. Instead of the small square being in the center it is in the corner. But it does radiate outward alternating dark and light colors like a barn raising. It's pretty scrappy with greens and whites/beiges.
I had thought about trying to quilt roses in the center of the strip pieced blocks -- since the colors are shades of pink, white and rose. Sounds like I was on the right track there.
I'm afraid I bit off a lot more than I bargained for time wise. Since I only hand quilt it takes time. It's just that I was there when the woman dropped them off and she was pretty upset. The work on these is close to perfect. When one of the other women said she would take them if nobody else would and just tie them I volunteered. These quilts deserve to be quilted and I feel honored to be the one to do it. I just don't want to mess this up.

I don't hand quilt myself, but your's and CJ's ideas sound lovely, can't wait to see them when you are done.

I finished the string pieced one. Went with the hearts. Decided the roses would take too much time -- my big ideas tend to get me in trouble.
Still don't know what to do with the log cabin. I also have some enbroidered blocks (teddy bears holding balloons) to set and finish. I brought home some crayon blue fabric from the meeting and have put the blocks together with alternating blocks of blue. I want to try to find some teddy bear fabric for a border and possibly the backing, but I think I have enough of the blue left if I have to use it.
Winter is my most creative time and we had our first snow today. I'm really itching to get going on my art. I had wanted to have these charity quilts finished before winter, but that didn't happen so I'll just have to work them in when I can. I have to grab hold of the creativity while it's here.
