    Talking I Made This Yesterday!

This is my first attempt at applique. It was scary to do because I've never done it before but it was easy and fit together nicely. The girl is called "Splish Splash Sue". It's the center for a baby blanket I'm making. Hope to get the rest of it cut out this week and finish it up by the weekend.

I only have one problem/question about it. See where the duck is under her arm? Well, I used pink embroidery floss for the outline of her arm and then I tried white but it's still not showing up well enough (even up close). Should I make it a black outline? Any ideas how to get the arm to show up better?

Very cute Carolyn! How about a dark red? whatever is the darkest shade of her dress that you can find. Black will work too.

My great grandmother had made a beautiful sunbonnet sue quilt and she had a running stitch, in black ,for all of the outline.....and the little black "dots" showed up very nicely

    Nice job Carolyn.

I agree with Dee, I'd go a dark red.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the red and black and see which one looks best. I'm so pleased with it. I've put off doing applique for a couple of years cause I was afraid of it but dh forced me to learn, lol. He promised an aquaintance a baby quilt and I had 2 weeks to do it so when I found this pattern I figured I'd try since I really didn't have any cute babyish fabric to use and couldn't buy any. This will all be made from my stash and most of that was free to begin with.

Oh and for those of you who are still afraid to try it? Buy you some "Wonder Under". Press it to the back of the fabric then press it to your panel and it works wonderfully. No sliding pieces and all edges lay flat and if you cut it to size before you press it and then applique around it, it sews perfectly and there are no edges to have to cut.

Wonder Under is like magic!!! I love the stuff. You just have to watch carefully though that you don't reverse the pattern unless it's reversable applique. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to do applique, at least to begin with.
