tacking a quilt
I know this might sound silly......but I am recovering an old quilt - giving it a new front & back and....I'm gonna cheat. I'm not going to bother with quilting it, I'm going to tack it instead...mostly b/c the front has no pattern, just floral print fabric for the entire front. Although I have tacked many quilts before, I'd like to know if any of you have a certain way of tacking.....do you just randomly tack, or do you do a design, or do you measure between the tacks?

The only quilts that I have tacked have been patchwork square block quilts, so I tacked at each corner of the blocks. My mom made some baby quilts and randomly tacked and they turned out very cute.

I would measure them out evenly. It would be unsettling to see the tacking all over the place with no semblance of pattern. Which is what a quilt is all about.
Just cut a square of paper and mark each tack site at the corners and move the paper along the quilt. Should come out even.
Such a frugal idea!! I love that you're recovering an odl quilt.

During this past year, recovering all of my family's quilts has been my big project. I have used up most of my scraps for making the tops, then my grandmother sent me a ton of material in randomly large pieces, which I sewed those together to make most of the backs...I was surprised that they turned out as nice as they did. The floral one that I'm working on now- the back is from a huge yardage that I had found at an estate sale and the floral printed front, I found for $1 a yard at hobby lobby(that was a surprise).....next 2 projects to do on my list.....repair the some squares on my quilt that I use as a bedspread and put together a winnie the pooh quilt for my 4 yr old dd;made that in a simple 9 patch design so that if the squares become damaged with wear, it will be easier to repair........I had a collection of various pooh bear prints, so I put those together for the front, for the back, I also found the yardage(surprisingly pooh bear material) for $1 a yd at hobby lobby. I was going to settle for just a nice low cost print that would compliment the quilt, but when I saw the pooh bear print for $1, I just couldn't pass it up
