    Default Need help desperately

quilt.jpgMy sister would like this quilt for her baby's crib. I have come up with a template that is 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" diamond. I've also decided that because the pieces are so small I'll have to hand piece. How would you go about piecing this?

This is actually a painting and I'm pleased that I found fabrics that come close but now that I've got the pieces cut I'm struggling with piecing.
    ANY help would be appreciated!

I'm not a quilter, but it is a beautiful quilt in the picture, and I'm sure yours will come out wonderfully. Good luck!

There are soooo many points to this quilt. NOT for the faint of heart for sure. My problem is piecing in the white diamonds. I am attempting to put together the clusters of seven stars...the center one and the six around it. There just aren't enough straight connections. ACK!!
This may just become a wall hanging instead of a quilt cuz I'm not sure I have enough patience...

From the picture it looks like these are baby blocks. If they are, I would suggest you find a quilting book that tells you how to do baby blocks. There are insets here and they aren't the easiest thing to do. If these are baby blocks as I suspect, I think you would need your diamond to be 2 1/4 inches. You might want to try your diamond that size. Also there are many quilting books that have the baby block pattern and template in the book.

How are you planning on doing the dogs? Appliquing them on top of the quilt?

Also, if this is a baby block pattern, you would sew it in rows rather than putting the 7 stars together as a block. It would all fall into place that way.

Thanks for the input CJ. The reason I'm doing clusters is because there aren't any straight lines. I've drawn this pattern out to get a finished size based on diamond size and the 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" diamond works out to be a nice size for a baby.
I've almost decided to give up. BF really is doing his best to convince me to continue, but I'm such a perfectionist and all these points it's hard to hide even the slightest bit off.
I don't intend to put the dogs on, I'm just making the matching quilt. I was thinking of asking a friend to quilt it with a dog pattern if available. Beyond that who knows.

Baby blocks (actually called tumbling blocks) are a really neat pattern. I'm sorry you are having to give up. Would it help if you could get a quilting book from the library and read how to do it.

Hopefully you can find a pattern similar to this one.

Don't give it up. Just give it a go and see what happens you may be surprised.
