Question Do you like purchasing "fat quarters" or do you prefer yds/metres of material instead

I do purchase lots of material but I'm drawn to the fat quarters. I love doing scrappy quilts and I find that I can pick up so many different colors and designs and then built a quilt from them.

My stash is going down because I've given many away, so I'll need to go off to the quilting store again. Any reason to get there is fine by me.

    How about you?

I like fq's because I don't find them as overwhelming as yards of fabric and because I can get so many different patterns! They are also very easy to work with which I like.

I agree with this completely. While the yards are less expensive, it's harder for me to pass up FQ's. They're easier for me to store too.

I always used to get the yards of fabric but now, thanks to our teacher , I am getting hooked on fat quarters!!! (sounds like a commercial for Hooked on Phonics!! ) Really, I never looked at them before but it makes sense......and like you say CJ, they are great for the scrappy quilts!!

I've been looking at materials on eBay recently and some are advertised as FQ - I don't know what that means!

Fat quarters are 100% cotton and are 18 x 22 inches in size. Although they are a bit more expensive, a quilter has much more of a variety in colors and designs if she purchases fat quarters.

Most quilters have lots of fat quarters!!! I just ordered a quilting book called Fat Quarter quilts and all the quilts are made specifically using only fat quarters.

They come in all colors and designs but are always 18 x 22 inches.

I like both equally well. I like the quick variety found in a basket filled with rolled up fat quarters...and the convience too. But I also like to find a yard or so of fabric i like, if i think i might want to share some with a friend. Somedays if i am in a bit of a hurry, i go straight for the fq's, if i have time i go for the yards of fabric to browse for a yard or so.
