Question When in a quilting store, what do you do?

Today I went out with a friend and we went to 2 quilting stores. I was literally drooling over material and we were both having so much fun. I knew I couldn't buy anything after our recent purchase of a van, and I'll have to make do with the material I have right now, but the excitement I get when I'm around material just thrills me.

I love the colors and designs and when I see new material, I'm designing in my head quilts I want to make. I'm matching colors and looking to see what they have thats new.

Do you get excited about material? In a quilting store, could you spend hours there? Or do you just rush in, purchase a piece of material and leave. Are those fat quarters calling your name?

I can spend quite a bit of time in a quilting store or JoAnn. I have to touch all the fabric! LOL!

I was just in JoAnn today with a friend and we spent about 30 minutes just walking around all the fabric, feeling it, pointing out details in the deisgn, etc.

I'm a "looker/stroker", but am also a "grab what you need and go before the little critters start calling your name and you can't pay the bills-er"

When I am by myself I love to LOOK and TOUCH and stroll the rows of fabric! The one I go to now is owned by an Amish family and is on their farm. They have a building with their store in it and they just expanded. It's great because when I go there the man will come out and ask if I need help, I usually know what I need or am looking for and tell him that I'm looking around....he says OK I'll just be out in the barn or yard, just holler when you are done......how's that for a leisurely look...it's wonderful because I can take my time and no one is standing there staring at me while I am enjoying the colours and fabric!! Like a kid in a candy store, I am, really!!!!

Heather, one of these days I'm making a trip to visit you. I want to go to an Amish quilting store - you are one lucky lady!!

I could spend hours looking at (and touching) all the fabric....then I get upset that I can't buy all of the ones that I like

I have to admit that I have never been in a quilting store. The only place I have ever bought material is Walmart, thrift stores and yard sales or was given to me.

I have never even seen a fat quarter. I can't even join the train cause I don't even think they are sold here.

I have made a quilt out of my collection and I still have lots to make more.

Does Walmart sell fat quarters? We're getting a Walmart soon and I am so hoping that they will.

LOL Melissa. I can't believe how fast you answered my post! Thank you. Our Walmart opens on May 21. IF I get a job there I will also get 10% off. I can't wait.

Dolphin - you could join the train even if you can't get fat quarters from Walmart. You can just cut a 18 x 22 inch piece off a piece of 100% cotton that you have. See how easy it is.

Hope you get the job at Walmart.

The Walmarts here sell fat quarters but they sell them in packages of 10.
