    Default Window quilts

I'm thinking about making myself some window quilts to block the draft a bit. Has anyone made or used them? Do you like them? Any good links?? I only have 6 windows to do, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I have made 2 complete window quilts and hung, 1 on the sewing machine at the moment and 3 tops waiting. I love mine. It gives me a chance to try out different quilting techniques and not waste material.

I made my own window quilts. For each room, the fabric is themed to the room. For example, my oldest sons room is in jeff gordon #24, so I found fabric and measured the window, and made the quilt with a few inches to spare on the sides. Filled it with cotten crib quilt batting and sewed it shut. I just tied my window quilts. They are not my works of art. but they are very functional. To hang them, I put cup hooks in the shelf I have above the window, and sewed pop tops to the top of the quilt to hang them on the cup hooks. Very cheap way to hang, easy to take off when its sunny and I want to heat up the room. Easy for the kids to put on and off as well.

since every window in my house is about a foot to ceiling so that is why each has a shelf above it. Its wasted space, so I filled it and the rooms can have trinkets displayed on top of it.

for the windows in my doors, which are metal, I also made quilts, more probably for privacy but Im sure they also work to cut the cold. I was lucky, my husband has access to big round magnets at his work, and he brought them home for me... repair shops will also have these, expecially if they work on microwaves. You can purchase magnetic rods at the stores tho.

I noticed that Joann Fabrics has quilter window shade material on a bolt too. It was in the back of the store but I'm not sure how much it is. I have some that were commercially made with reflective Mylar on the outside. They reflect the summer sun's heat too.
