What NOT to do when you are machine quilting
OK....I'm sewing away at free motion quilting. Just buzzing along. The thread snaps for what ever reason. No problem...Guess dust got up in the bobbin casing..Who knows..Well anyway. I clean out the bobbin casing put the bobbin back in and grab hold of the thread up top to rethread through the needle. As I was trying to do this HELLO BARBARA take your foot off the pedal. Well I didnt and when I leaned in to see the thread to get it through the needle eye Yep you guessed it I pressed the pedal. Right into the finger the needle went. OK..Now if that isnt bad enough I am sitting there and just about to panic. So I say just turn the wheel and get the needle out of your finger. RIGHT!!! I turn the wheel the wrong way. and it goes in deeper. By this time I'm eyeing the cordless phone dh put beside the sewing machine. Is it time to call 911. Nope just sat there about to wet my pants from the pain. Well I bit the bullet and turned the wheel the other way and gave my finger a jerk and got it unsewed. Bleeding yea but I finally got it out.

Oh, big ouch. I've done that also. Be sure to soak your finger in hot soapy water a couple of times a day for a few days to avoid an infection.
My really dumb one ( ok I admit it I've done it more than once) I sewed thru my fingernail and broke the needle off. My dad had to pull it out with small vice grips. That took a while to quit throbbing.Robin

oh yuck!
When I did that I just hit the hard built up skin on the side tip of my finger so it didn't hurt.

rofl, i'd have called 911, i'm way to chicken to do it myself. Good for you that you had your wits about you and was able to get it off!! Sounds like it hurts.

Oh, does my finger ache for you. The visual must have been just as shocking as the pain. Good for you to keep your wits about you. It isn't an easy thing to do sometimes.
