Question How to make a scalloped edge?

~I've only done simple finishing techniques so I want to try a scalloped edge on a baby quilt I'm putting together. I was wondering if I could sew the quilt sandwich together inside-out then turn, close the opening, topstitch and quilt. Has anyone ever done that?~

YES!!! It is a really quick way to finish a quilt. I just have to think twice what order to put the "layers" together. Make sure the batting is on the outside. It wasn't fun taking out all those stitches.

I'm not sure I would do that with a scalloped edge. While you could probably do it, it would not be as easy as you think. The edge would probably need to be clipped before you turn it. You would also have to pull out each individual scallop and press them into shape because the scallops will not naturally follow when you turn the quilt. The scallops will stay tucked inside the quilt and you will have to pull them out one at a time. Hope this makes sense.

I use the "sew and turn", "envelope" or "birthing method" as you describe many times. But if I use a different type of border or edge treatment, such as a scallop, then I use a bias binding.

~Changed my mind(surprise surprise!). I'll do the longer, traditional way. I'm just so eager to get to the quilting part! So it's all basted and on the hoop and ready for stitchin'. I'm still planning on the scallop edge. It's just gonna take longer than I'd hoped. Lesson: don't procrastinate when making a present for your baby niece so that you're left with only 2 weeks in which to finish the gift.~

~I'm still hand quilting. Why oh why did I decide to hand quilt? I prefer doing it by hand but I could have been done by now if I had done it on the machine. I have 1 week left to finish this!~
