Comfort for today and all of 2004 and beyond
At church today the sermon was entitled "Comfort for 2004." I hope you, my FV friends, don't mind if I share a bit of it with you. It was about how even though we have no idea what will occur in this new year, we can take comfort in knowing that God is in control. The Heidelberg Catechism Q & A 1 summarizes it well. (I memorized it as a teen and am so glad I did.)
"My only comfort in life and in death is that I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. Christ has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him."

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I was not able to get to church today and I feel so "empty".
I really do not like missing church, but with the roads being bad, we decided not to chance it.

As I was sitting here tonight thinking about my dad's surgery tomorrow, this came to mind. I think many of us could use this reassurance.
