It's hard to believe that the Madden franchise is ten years old. NHL 2000 $5
Ever since the days of the Sega Genesis, EA Sports has churned out premium NHL Hockey titles for both the personal computer and video gaming consoles. Their latest effort--NHL 2000--continues their market dominance by adding a wealth of new features and improvements over last year's version.
At first glance, NHL 2000 resembles last year's graphically stunning feast for the eyes, but does include multiple visual upgrades such as crisper player models and better animation. After playing NHL 2000 for a game or two, especially in one of the television-style camera modes, you'll find it hard to distinguish from the real thing. Fortunately, playing NHL 2000 provides as much enjoyment as watching; the controls are rock solid and elements like scoring and goalie intelligence have been fine-tuned to offer a more realistic hockey experience.

All NHL teams and players are accounted for, including the expansion Atlanta Thrashers. Furthermore, EA Sports continues to update the NHL 2000's player roster via a small download from their Web site. One of NHL 2000's best additions over last year's version is smooth Internet gameplay. Using EA Sports' intuitive Internet interface, you can compete against aspiring NHL players from all over the world. If you're more interested in the solo game, NHL 2000 offers full season competition, including a new career mode with free agency and rookie drafts.


Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 $5
Just as Tiger Woods continues to win tournament after tournament, EA Sports continues to release excellent computer golf simulations year after year. What's most impressive is that EA Sports not only improves upon previous versions, but also ups the technology ante with each new release.
The best new feature is "Play Against the Pros": gamers can participate shot for shot against nine different PGA Tour members in selected tournaments. On tournament day, simply join EA Sports's free online gaming service and select the round you wish to play (for more information, visit the Web site at http://www.playagainstthepros.com). It's a clever bridge between real life, the Internet, and computer gaming.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 offers three new courses (TPC at Herron Bay, TPC at Piper Glen, and TPC at Prestancia) to EA Sports' usual slate for a total of eight exclusive courses; furthermore, all courses from the 1999 edition are compatible. If that's still not enough to satisfy, EA Sports has included "Course Architect," allowing users to create their own golf courses from the ground up.

Even with an emphasis on new features, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 still plays an excellent round of golf, exemplified by an intuitive interface, beautiful graphics, and several gameplay modes, including skins, match play, shootout, fourball, and foursomes. Nine PGA Tour members are represented, to either play as or against; EA Sports has even included famous golf amateur Michael Jordan, a first for the series. Multiplayer also doesn't disappoint; players can hop on EA Sports Net, EA Sports's free online service, and challenge human players worldwide in a single round of golf or even organized tournaments.
