Default Saving Saturday July 4, 2009

Good morning everyone. I can't believe I got up at 8:00, I was up until 3am pecking away on the forums. Well I'm on my second cup of coffee. I opened the windows to let the breeze in. It is suppose to be in the upper 70's and sunny all day. A beautiful day for the birthday of our great nation. When my hubby wakes up we are planning on taking the TransAm and enter it into a car show. This will be a first and we just want to see how it does in the Non Restoration category. I hope everyone has a safe enjoyable holiday.

Hubby and I hung an 8' outdoor Coolaroo shade over our dining room windows and just returned from getting a FREE pickup bed load of sand. We will be spreading it in the yard TOMORROW morning VERY early. It is SO hot and humid that early morning is the coolest time (5:30 a. m. it is in the HIGH 70's as opposed to the mid to upper 90's at 10 p.m.!!).

We will be staying close to home all weekend and doing things around the house. I am ALMOST done rearranging everything on my kitchen counters and in the cabinets. Now everything I need to get to is close at hand and easily accessible - crockpot, Kitchenaid mixer, microwave, coffee pot, breadmaker, dehydrator, and Foodsaver vacuum sealer.

We just said Goodbye to my B&SIL and their <<5>> kids yesterday afternoon, and I have tidied up the house (it is gonna take more than a day's cleaning, but I will do that piecemeal this next week).

I have started laundering towels and bed linens a load at a time (6 beds) and so that is going......

I have been cooking and doing dishes literally non-stop for 4 days, and I am sitting on my ARSE for the weekend---mainly. I slept 13-1/2 hours last night, I was so TIRED!!!

We are back in the backwoods anyway, and the small town near us is busy and bustling for the holiday, and parades and stuff and .....we are staying AWAY. We're homebodies. I'm just gonna cook whatever is LEFT (LOL!) in the freezer, and MAYBE knit or just peruse the internet.

I am so beat. I had better get back in better shape before we have grandkids! The first two days I was fine, but between the kiddies and noise, and me getting up early to cook, I didn't sleep very well.

Our sons have implicit instructions to NOT have 5 kids each. LOL! J/K--we would take all and any, when they come along.

    To sum it up--today is Cheryl's down-day.

It is suppose to hot here today, close to 95. We have no A/C because we live in Oregon and it is only gets this warm a few days of the year. At least there is no humidity. Right now I have the windows open to let in the relativity cool air, but will close them when it get into the 80s.

We are going to a BBQ tonight. I am bringing almond shortcake, which I will bake right before we leave so that we don't have to sit in the house very long with the heat from the oven.

I worked a lot (for me) this week, so I am catching up on laundry.

I was up early too drinking coffee, outside. I got 2 gr peppers and a cuke from the garden. Some tomatoes (the garden was put out so late) are starting to grow. The first salad of the year that has my stuff in it - pretty good. Also just started a crockpot of potato soup which should be done around 5p or so. I went to Aldi's on Thursday so I'm in good shape for a bit on groceries. Not doing anything but enjoying the quietness right now. jla I have those kinda neighbors too. I hope they stay out for fireworks or a party or something. I'm assuming everyone else on the block went to the parade--it's been nice people being gone (not trying to sound all anti-social but I should live clear out in the sticks away from ppl instead of scrunched together on this block) I have my windows open and the temperature is just right! My cats are in their seventh heaven sitting in the windows being nosey. I have a couple of beers to drink this evening -- sometimes I can see fireworks from where I live and sometimes not. But I'm content
Anyhoo ---- Hope everyone has a safe, no drama holiday.

My thanks to our service men and women who have let me have this peaceful day at home --
I hope you all come home soon.

I worked 16 hours yesterday, from 2pm until 6am this morning, so needless to say. I just got up!!
Found the house empty ( assume everyone's gone to the parade- in the rain! - the teens were supposed to walk in it for the Swim Club)
Found the fridge FULL- potato salad and such for a cook out later - YAY! Freedom from Cooking today
I'm eating @ present what I can only assume is America's great contribution to the culinary world- a PBJ
I'm flying to Albany Wednesday night to attend my commencement ceremony, and have a LOT to do to get ready- guess I'll plan that out while the house is empty
Need to brew a pot of Zombie Elixer of Life (coffee)
DD got home from camp last night, and a see a suspicious pile of laundry in the kids' bathroom
Need to call my 80 year old Dad and reminiscewith him awhile (July 4th is the anniversary of my grandmother's death, and she helped raise his 5 daughters when my Mom left)
For the fisrt time in many years, I don't have to work, so I'm planning to go see the fireworks in Lebanon later - hopefully, the zombie elixer has worked its magic by then!!

Thought I had to work this am, I didn't. Big news this afternoon is that our basement is flooded. Either the circuit is killing the pumps or something.

No no-spend day here. Our backup pump isn't working either, so DH is off to Lowe's to go buy another.

    Sigh.

We went out to the town 4th of July festival with craft artists and various musicians playing. We stayed about 2 hours and then came home. Hubby and oldest son went to the car show in town and to get our fireworks. We are going to bbq the rest of the day and do our fireworks tonight.

I spent the time cleaning the house and reading a book. Just enjoying a restful day. Happy 4th of July to everyone.

Weather a bit of a downer but that made the day easy.
~Went to the festival for kids games this morning. Didn't buy any food and it wasn't hot so no drinks.
~Used the budgeted money to take kids to a movie, brought snacks for the car on the way home.
~Picked up ds's new glasses from Walmart on the way home.
~Made milkshakes and peanut butter crackers for dinner since it's hard to cook out in the rain.

Our neighbors are somewhere else this year. Not to be mean but YEAH!!. They aren't bad people but there is never less than 5 cars at their house. They have tons of relatives and now their kids bring lots of people over too. The pool is always full. We just don't match. I also need to live on a private island. I feel overwhelmed by all the social. Thank God they finally stopped inviting us over. They meant well but it's like being called to the principals office. Pretty soon one of them mentions something i should do to my yard. It's exhausting.
I hate the celebration part of the 4th anyway. The 3rd someone put off fireworks until 1:30 a.m. My 100# dogs are so scared they don't want to go out, they stuff themselves under desks or get in bed w/ me. Firearms get shot off somewhere, firetrucks are dispatched and occasionally i hear a crash on the main road. People use it as a excuse to get blind drunk and drive. I worry about teenagers and bad judgements at parties. My cousins DD overdosed at a party last year. Fireworks don't thrill me like they used to. I spent 2 hours trying to pick up my DD and BF last year after the fireworks. Just an old fart I guess. But it all has nothing to do w/ independence does it.??

Happy 4th everyone. We stayed close to the house today. We started our landscaping project this morning. We need lots more pine straw. Will buy some next week and lay it down on the beds. We went to the cemetary to put flowers on MIL & FIL's graves but someone stole the vase!! Can you believe stealing at a cemetary? So I'll get in touch with the office next week & see if they can order another one. Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.
