    Default Saving Saturday 8/29

Good morning friends. I've been logged on since Wednesday and haven't posted. OOOPS. I spent 14 hours at work Thursday and was just too blasted tired to do anything yesterday. Hubby took the day off so we enjoyed each others company for a change. Today will be our cleaning day. I need to do bedclothes, dust and sweep the bedroom, clean out closet and finish my Dirty Dozen list from the 2 days spent at work. It was raining earlier but is starting to clear up. Hmmm, we may even get a motorcycle ride in. Hope you have a teriffic day.

It's a rainy and dreary day here as well! I plan on cleaning and doing some laundry. I have to make a quick trip out to the library to return some things, other than that....it's going to be a stay at home, catch up on things day!

Just need to sweep and mop the floors today.

Already went on a walk. Went inside family dollar to see what new things they might have. Almost thought about going back to buy some things but decided to wait and keep on budget.

I'm enjoying a day at home. DS has a football game tonight, and I'll have to go to that, but other than the game...nothing!!! DD has gone with DH to watch little girls' softball with the little girls she coaches.

I've already been to buy groceries. DH asked what my plans were for the day after the grocery store, and I replied, "Stay home. No other plans!"

    Smile My saving Saturday

Today I got some things done, and saved money too.
Got up early and had morning coffee on the patio today; enjoyed being in my garden and watching a little sparrow have a bath in my water feature just 8 feet away. My red mini-rosebush has 7 lovely blooms and buds; and surprise...a jolly-jump-up has just started blooming beside the water feature.
I harvested a few raspberries for my cereal, and checked the progress of my other garden veggies. I think I'll save my scarlet runner bean pod (there's only one so far) for seed, because that will give me 4-6 plants next spring. It's a great time of the year to enjoy the garden; so many flowers are blooming, and the veggies are producing now.

Then I got an early start on doing my laundry by hand (no washer yet), and did 4 "loads" of laundry in a 5-gal. pail in the bathtub, using the plunger-method. The soaking stage/plunging stage/hand-wringing/rinsing/hand-wringing took most of the day, but the dryer dried them fast, and it's done. (though I'm all in...; playing guitar builds strong hands, or I'd really be suffering right now)
I'm rotating towels these days, so as to have less laundry.
IE: face & hair towels later become bath towels after a couple of days.

Also, while laundry was soaking, I did some sewing...mending, and a good start on lingerie alterations. Used some lace edging I salvaged from thrift shop curtains years ago.

The homemade coffee filters are working well; as long as I wash them in clean, soapy water every night, rinse in 2 clear waters and soak, then drape over a tumbler to dry. They smell fresh and pure next day.

Made a large glass bottle (about 6 cups) of green tea (with lemon) from just 3 tea bags (plus had 2 cups of tea), just by letting the tea bags soak, then heating more water and steeping them again.

Did a calculation on using Royale coupons for tp and tissues since the store has a great sale on these products this week, but then I checked my stockpile: 10 packages of tp, 9 boxes of tissues left, so I think I'll hang onto my money and buy later on since the coupons are good till end of the year and beyond. Also ordered more coupons today for Royale products. Ordered a couple of freebies this AM.

Had a good supper: homemade iced green-tea, potato salad, bacon, homemade banana bread made from 3 salvaged frozen bananas earlier this week. I organized my fridge-freezer compartment this week, and found lots of things there, stacked everything in sections, flattened some rounded bags of foods by smacking them on the counter. Lots more room in there now, and I know what I can work with. Only threw out some old, very stale bread pieces and some lemon/orange peelings.
Note to Self: IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT NOT HAVING ENOUGH FOOD, RE-ORGANIZE THE FRIDGE AND THE FREEZER, CUPBOARDS, ETC.

I'm thawing some freezer foods to make pizza tomorrow: mushrooms, mixed tomato sauce. Have some chicken thighs thawing too: will bake and then re-freeze some, make some into soup and casseroles. Thawing a package of frozen pumpkin to make into pumpkin pudding (one of my favourites) on Sunday. Have some potatoes left in the fridge to make another potato salad, or fry up with EVOO and seasonings.
Will pick salad fixings from the garden tomorrow.

Watched a good movie, enjoyed the sound-track (pure genius).
Washed a large load of dishes, took out the trash, picked up the neighbour's trashbag from the ground and put it in the trashcan before the wandering cats and skunks get into it.
    Visited FV.

Now, I really must go outside and water down the garden with the garden hose. The temp is going down to 4 degrees tonight, and I want to save my plants just in case. And even if it doesn't freeze, the plants handle the cold-shock better this way with a layer of water-drops.
    It's been a long day...but a good day!
