    Default Decoupaging questions

Hey all! I have 2 ceramic, smooth-textured lamps (currently burgundy) that I want to decoupage with tissue paper in neutral tones for my den. Has anyone ever done anything like this? How did it work out? Do I need to prime the lamps first to prevent the original color showing through? TIA for your ideas!

How thick is the paper you are going to use? Just the typical tissue paper or something thicker? When you hold it up to the paper to the lamp can you see through and see the color of the lamp?

I have not done a lamp, but have done other things like boxes. I don't think you would have to prime the lamps the gluey stuff should stick and once you start layering it on it should be fine.

Are you doing more than one color?

jas, I was going to use tissue paper, which was why I wondered about the color showing through. I worried about thicker paper not laying down flat around the curves. I was going to prime the lamps to cover the burgundy up.

fairydana, I Googled "decoupaged lamp" and found several pics of cute versions for inspiration! I will definitely post a pic once I figure out what I want to do.

ETA: If I do use two colors, they will probably be in the same color family (like light and dark brown, or golds, for example).
