Default large item pick up finds

We are living on an extremely tight budget, and I found so much great stuff at the large item pick up this year (where everyone puts out their large item stuff etc . which usually ends up being a put out of all large and small to go to the dump). we found dd a chair, desk and dresser .. all in fine - good shape, toys and shelves etc to decorate the house. no one would even guess where they came from. I was so pleased as we wouldn't have been able to buy these things at this time. we got a small can of white paint on sale (melamine) for $9 to paint the chair and desk so it will look great like a set.

Those are great finds! I think it would be great if every neighborhood would encourage this. I put my desk outside by our apartment garbage can when I got my mom's old one a couple months ago. It was in great condition still, I just didn't have room for it and I had gotten it free during a moving out time at college. Somebody took it for their apartment and I am so happy that the desk I found for free several years ago went to someone else who needed it . I should add that when people put things next to the garbage cans it lets other people in the apartment complex know those items are free. I would never have let the dump take my desk, if it hadn't been taken in a couple of days I would have tried to freecylce it .
