We have a sheltered workshop/thrift store here, and they sell school supplies which the workers have assembled notebooks, ink pens, pencils. Unfortunately, the prices are higher than the discount stores. I was bummed today when I realized that. I'd really like to support them by buying school supplies there, but not at double the prices.
On the other hand, the thrift store has great deals on backpacks, lunch boxes, and binders. You just have to look closely for rips/tears and make sure the zippers work.

In addition, the thrift store was selling all jeans 1/2 off..their top price is $2.50!

I can't believe I didn't buy ANYTHING!
