Were your antiques passed down through generations or
Did you purchase most of them yourself.
I purchased all of my antiques myself. Nothing was passed down to me except a set of dishes which I had to sell after a few years of marriage in order to make ends meet.
I usually get my antiques at antique dealers but have been fortunate enough to find a few at yard sales.
Much of what I have I purchased, I have some china tea cups and saucers that date back as far as my Great Grandmother.... I have some antiques that where my Mother's, she had purchased them.....

I have purchased all mine. The only thing handed down so far was my moms salt and pepper shaker sets.
We did get some of gma furniture but its not antique and it wasn't handed down, we bought it.
A friend once gave me an antique rocker, its around 100 years old now.
i have to buy mine too. the only thing that was passed down was some jewelry that my greatgrandmother had and her diaries, that i was allowed to read but had to return to my mother when i was done. so i have to buy everything.

Most of mine have been found or purchased by us. Some have come from sil when she was an antiques dealer. She gave me a beautiful (low to the ground, for us short people!) rocking chair and various tins for my collection.
I have one item that was my grandmother's (on Dad's side). It is a pastry cutter. Dh made several wooden plaques with routed edges that this and other antique tools are mounted on in my "General Store" dining room.
Nothing from my grandma on mom's side yet as my parents are still living. Mom asked all of us kids years ago what we would like, and I was the only one who wanted the antiques. So I get them all. I'm in no rush for them. They are 2 pair of children shoes, one pair has metal tips on them that say 189? and the other pair button up, 2 cast iron irons, coal scuttle (? the little shovel) and bucket and from my mom's mom is a round pitcher. I think it is original Fiesta Ware in a deep burgundy color.
Gosh, I'm chatty today! Lol!

I feel very fortunate- I have a lot of my great-grandmothers and grandmother's things. Both saved everything! I was 21 when my great-grandmother died, so I knew her quite well. I have lots and lots of their stuff- and my mom has lots and lots also. My great-grandmother had a curved front china closet with lots of dishes, vases, etc. in it and I remember her explaining that most of the pieces were wedding presents. I have a lot of those pieces now. I also have her cookie jar- a shawnee fruit basket cookie jar that is in mint condition. I have lots of dresser scarfs and pillow cases she embroidered, plus all of her crochet and embroidery thread. My mom just called me yesterday to ask if I wanted her cast iron frying pans- I can't wait to get them!! I have her kidney shaped vanity, with a seat, her piano stool with glass and claw feet, and the rocking chair my great-grandfather used to sit in all the time. (he died when I was 4). My brother has her trunk that came with her when she imigrated to this country. I have my grandmothers blue willow dishes that were a wedding present to her in 1936- her brother won them at the general store by guessing the number of beans in a jar! These are things that I will pass along to my daughters and daughter in law in the future.

Most of mine have been passed down. All from Steve's mothers side. I have an old sewing machine with a peddle foot. A dresser,2 tables, quilts, and a trunk.
I did however buy a chair at a thrift shop last weekend for $20.It looks old,in excellent shape.I have no idea how old is it though...

Most of our's we've bought at garage sales or junk stores. We do have a bedroom suit that was dh's grand parents, a set of dishes that were my granny's, a pressure canner and wedding ring from my other granny. I have quite a few antiques but not many are worth much except to me. I just love em all.
