    Default Found old freezer

I have been wanting a small chest freezer for a long time, but really wasn't wanting to pay $200 for one. Yesterday I just by chance decided to check craiglist and someone had just posted one that morning for $20, the really weird thing was is was about a block away from my apartment. We called and the guy said someone was taking a look at it in a few minutes and he would call us back. He calls back and the other guy said it wasn't big enough for him. We drive over and find a rather old scratched up 7.2 cubic freezer (looks pretty beat up on the outside) he opened the top and it looked brand new on the inside, all nice and clean (no funny smells, no stains, no rusty rack) The seal looks really good....I handed him the $20 and he helped us load it up. I'm thrilled....but a bit concerned about the electric usage of this older model?? Anyone have a 7.2 cubic chestfreezer Frigidaire about 15 years old?? Wondering if I can put this outside on the patio? or if it's better to have inside? I heard something about the compressor not working if the tempture drops too low? Wondering what deals I will find to fill her up.

Way to go!! My freezer is my mil's, came with the house. It's a 1962 chest freezer. Hey, it still works great. I keep a block on the lid..just to make it a tighter seal. I really don't know how much it costs me every month to run it..since I've never been without it. Just imagine the bread, meat, veggies you can fill it with. Enjoy!

You're better off keeping it inside. It will last longer. Good find!

Good find!!! It's probably best inside. Also keeping it full will help it work more efficiently. When it's not full of food you can keep milk jugs or something like that filled with ice to fill it up.

Oh, geez, ours is 18 years old and in perfect condition. Really, how can you mess up a freezer??? anyway, we keep ours in the hot California garage and it still works fine. I have no intention of getting rid of a perfectly good freezer because the energy usage might be higher than a newer one. Keep it, use it, fill it often and enjoy your savings!
