    Default Old milk can stools

I rescued two old milk cans that had been left to rot and rust at my grandparents old farm many years ago. They had been sitting in the shed all but forgotten. I dug them out doing the Fall Fling and new it was time to do something with them or junk them. The hard part was, they were meaningful to me, a sign of things past that you can't get back that is long gone from my childhood. I couldn't bring my self to toss them. Then it struck me, I had been looking for a couple stools to go along the small cupboard I have in the kitchen.
BINGO, it worked and they look great. They aren't completely done yet, but they are painted. Now I just have to "pad the lids" to make them soft and I will have two new stools to sit on at the cupboard!

It does pay to think "out of the box" and look at things differently.
Old milk cans make great stools!

That is a great idea. Will you be covering the bottom so they don't scratch the floor?

Way too cool! And primitive country if you like the look (I myself love it!!!). What a great idea! What color paint did you use and what color are the seats gonna be?

My kitchen is done is a sage green. I used a spray paint that is just a little brighter green than the walls, with white trim. I used felt on the bottom so they will slide with no marks left on the floor. I am also in to primitive country, and my kitchen looks like a hen house. I don't know what it is about chicken and country but they just seem to go together for me. I have some great chicken wall paper border, I plan to cut around it closely and make it look "painted". That will go around the middle of the stools. I can't paint, so I always look for ways to make it "look" painted. The tops of the can will be foam on the top (have it already), then covered in a material to match the colors. (don't have it yet, look out thrift store!) I got sidetracked today playing with the old truck of my grandmothers.
I have no place to store it. So I covered it in a piece of foam on top of a piece of plywood cut to match the size of the trunk top. Then attached the foam with a spray craft glue. I had started a levi quilt and never finished it. So I place the levi material over the foam and made the top. Then used the left over pieces to make a "skirt" around the truck sides (attached with a staple gun to the plywood top). Layed the top back in place and it can now be used as a coffee table, or a foot stool. It turned out pretty neat, and it doesn't look so out of place! That is about as clear as mud!!

What a great way to use something you already have.

I will get some pictures and learn how to post them. They really did turn out pretty neat. Its a great way to save something that means so much to me, and now I don't have to worry they they will be thrown out as junk!
